Especially when the damage is so grizzly.

It doesnt look too bad, but it is fixable. If you'll be so kind as to update us if the insurance fixed it and how much it came out too.

It doesn't look bad, cosmetically but who knows what they will find. Also, the little things (fasteners and bolts) add up quickly. Glad you're okay, but my guess is 10k+in repairs

I hit a deer going about 75MPH a few years ago. Similar location to yours. Ended up being 4 grand, but I guess I lucked out and there wasn't any damage to the frame or suspension geometry.

Yikes!
Hope the frame isn't too badly bent. Years ago hit a german shepard dog with the government car. I wondered why all the cars in front of me were slowing/stopping suddenly. Then boom I see this dog flying into the front of the car. Yuh, all those cars in front of me hit the dog. I now have PTSD from that incident. LOL! The government car smelled of dog for about 2 weeks.

I did the same thing with two big subtractions:
- Did not hit bear, hit metal road barrier. - Did not set off airbags. You will need to find out if your frame is damaged, mine was not and looked identical to your pic. I needed: New hood, New bumper New front right quarter panel New front right headlight They are fixing bent radiator mount, ding in the rear quarter panel, some tiny other things. Total repairs: - Parts +/- $2600, labor +/- $3,457. Total: $6,057 Remember, my airbags did not go off, so that is another $1200 I would guess, but what do I know. Random: I went to the body shop yesterday (Toyota certified) and picked up the old hood. Its really not that bad, no paint damage, just bent a little. But because it is so thin/lightweight, the guy said there was no real way to fix it. So I took it home, gonna use it as the base for a mural or something. Daily reminder not to crash my car. Good luck! |

Moar details:
Hood: $660 Front fender $580 Light: $450 Quarter panel: $500 Random bits: The rest. These are rough, like yours they are ahead of the game (parts ordered, but greenlit from Insurance, I have not seen anything quoting costs in writing). I spent a few minutes with my guy making small talk, stressed wanting oem parts, all within warranty, I was assured that would be the case. My insurance company is amazing (Eirie) and while I have never made a claim (first accident in 26 years) my friends and family love them, the stories are great. My story is weird. They wanted to take my car to "Chucks bodyshop". I expressed reservations, namely because Chuck does not have the decency to use his whole name. I asked for the local toyota dealership and was told it was not one of their preferred bodyshops... but that that was no problem, they would add it. I really think that the quality of your experience is in part predicated on the dealership's experience with the insurance company. Cheap insurance equals cutting corners and less service. I spent a good 25 minutes with my "project lead" who took me back to meet the mechanic who would be doing all of the work, which was cool. Then I noticed that my rear bumper was off, and commented, since to my knowledge that was not part of the crash. His response? We noticed it needed touching up a little, so we are making it like new. I bought the car used and when I got it it had one bad set of license plate screw divots. I checked the reviews for the dealership and of course there are tons of very unhappy people. I find that these unhappy people always have the same two or three big name insurance brands that promise to be the cheapest. They also always appear to be in a rush. I am happy to pay more and get more, and so far my experience has been really great. They gave me a rental for three weeks too. Fingers crossed this is what my whole experience is going to be like. If you can get Erie Insurance, do. I hear that its the closest thing to USAA. Thank you Erie Insurance! (Note: Great though they are, they would not insure my motorcycle at all, so they are picky. My insurance went up about $200 from my 2005 Scion TC to my 2015 FRS, btw. ) |

I got the quote from the body shop.
Upon glancing at the quote, I only noticed that it didn't include any hardware/fasteners at all. However, once I went through it more thoroughly and viewed exploded diagrams of the parts categories (hood, fender, bumper & grille, etc.) it appears there's probably quite a few more parts needed. Talked to the adjuster about it. Adjuster said he is transferring the claim to another individual, a local field adjuster who can come view the car in person. We'll see where it goes from here... fun times coming up.

Dont freak out, (I think) this is normal. My adjuster told me to expect this. Basically he said they would do an external examination of the big picture, submit the claim, and then do a follow-up once they had the body parts off and could see the details.
He said things like the hood, quarter panel etc take more time to get, clips and such were plentiful and they may even have on hand (same from one model to another). They also cost much less. If there is bracket damage they would likely fix it (just man hours), but if there was frame damage or anything big, they would call in the insurance company again. My adjuster visited my car a couple of days after they took it apart and aparently approved the extra clips etc. Confirmed there was no radiator or engine damage. I really try to relate to the guys, understand the shit they have to deal with and accomodate them. Giving a little can gain you a lot. I am super frustrated when I am there, but I consciously remind myself to be cool and understand that they deal with a wide range of crazy. I want to be their good customer, I want them to care how I feel. The unfortunate dynamic is that you put a lot of trust in somebody when you give them your car. Hopefully they have the technical ability and professional pride to do a good job, unfortunately sometimes being good at communications is not one of the requirements (especially saying the same thing for a thousandth time to somebody not listening). Yes, I am in communications. It doesnt always work, but it works enough to keep trying. |
