StopShop Sat Nav Systems

Hi all

I finally after 3 years of waiting and saving, last week, bought myself a Toyota 86 2.0L Std. I will post a pic shortly.

I am loving the new car, the drive , power and engine sound is everything i expected and more. However i am rather disappointed with the sound system and the factory fitted "hilux bakkie" radio is such an eye sore it doesn't fitt with the look of the car.

So with that in mind my first planned mod to the car will be replacing the factory fitted radio with a touch screen radio / Sat Nav. I have been reading some of the treads regarding sat / nav's and i see alot of people on the forum have fitted the Parrot Astriod head unit. It is a really awesome looking techy piece of electronics, which is right up my ally, however 9k is out of my budget for a Sat/nav device.

So i came across www.stopshop.co.za and i really like the look of the sat nav's they have on offer. Also at about 4k with shipping and vat it is with in my budget. The only problem is i cant find much info on the net about the spec's and i'm a bit worried to spend money on something i'm not certain of the quality.

Have any of you installed one of these sat nav's or know of anyone who has?

Or do you have any suggestions on other devices i can look at?

PS. Her Name is the Black Panther. LOL

Hi Burns,

Welcome to the forum. I used to have the parrot in my old 86 and its nice but not worth 9k. My current plan is use a old phone as the GUI and use the radio as just an amp.

Are you on our cape town Whatsapp group, I think one or 2 of the guys have different multimedia headunits?

Congrats and welcome to the forum!

Scrap the sound and get yourself an exhaust...the symphony of pistons!

Also not too clued up on sound, but generally I've heard that you get what you pay for, like most things...

I'd personally save up and get something like this:

hahaha i like the way you think. The symphony of pistons sounds awesome. However i still have a year left on the maintenance plan and wont an exhaust upgrade void the plan?

Subaru SA fits an aftermarket exhaust manufactured by De Graaf on every BRZ they sell. They fit mine for me (on an 86). And my Toyota dealership said they don't give 2 shits about a muffler. So no

I've had one of the stopshop units on my Hilux. the functions are not intuitive, sound quality is not grand and they break.

On my brand new unit a button didnt work. When i sent it for repairs they said it was glued to the board and insisted I did that. After alot of back and forth the unit was replaced. The touch screen isnt grand at all.

My personal opinion, Stay away from those!

for a little more you can get a JVC system or the likes

For a fair amount more you can get the parrot or an android system.

With stopshop, you need to pay the import duties. Check cardvdgps.co.za. I think the units are the same but at least they do the install and you have local backup.
