Yep. That is why I prefer the MT as well. That little bit more control (especially in snow) can make the difference sometimes. I have drove MTs for over 40 years (long enough that I still call them "standard" transmissions and get blank stares from the young guys) and about 98% of the time my shifts are done with so little thought or attention that I am no more "engaged" then if the car was shifting on it's own. The shifts just sort of happen. Now, when those 2% of the shifts that do require attention occur then I am very glad to have the control over them that the MT affords me.

Sure, i use the highway sometimes and sure sometimes i'll drive far which is fine...but to use it on a highway daily....no thanks.

I disagree, but that's the nature of a forum where we all express our opinions.
I daily mine on the freeway 50 miles round trip.

With a muffler delete.
And no second cat.

But I've always liked loud cars and bikes. My CBR1000RR has a titanium straight pipe.

All I'm really saying is that 'loud' is subjective and if recommend the OP test drive before listening to any of our opinions.

Hey, i get what your saying and I agree in some aspects.

I just find it's not a highway cruiser because the audio system is weak and you have to crank the volume high since the car is loud.
When you crank up the volume, the sound system sounds bad.

Yes yes...you can do an audio upgrade, but it costs money

But anyways, yeah I get your point of it also and agree that the loudness of the car is definitely subjective!

I agree on the radio thing. I haven't upgraded that unless you consider the touch screen head unit from the factory as an upgrade.

Did we just have a civilized conversation on the Internet?!?!?

I daily drive 100 miles a day and the audio system being weak is definitely true, I can also see how the loudness of the car would bother some... For me personally I'm used to "loud" cars since my 2002 Accord which I drove before the FR-S sounded like a wounded dinosaur...

The biggest hurdle to get over in learning to drive them is the fear of learning to drive them, The rest is all technique.
It was a dark, cold, rainy night and I had just handed my poor car in for a bit of post accident body work.

I jumped into the hire car the insurance arranged for me and put my foot on the clutch. "WTF? That feels weird. Why is the clutch so stiff?", then I looked at the gear stick and the penny settled. It's an auto. First time I had ever had to drive an auto.

Freaky experience, but it's not exactly difficult to figure out. Actually I think I had worked everything out (except hill starts) by the end of their parking lot.

So ... if you can drive a manual, you can obviously drive an auto, but not the other way around.

(Hill starts weren't that tricky either, it just holds the foot brake for you, for about 2 seconds when you release it on a hill so you don't roll back).

But at the same time... If you can drive an auto you can easily learn how to drive a manual.

A car is a car.

My 50 year old aunts and 70+ year old grandmother can drive a manual because in the country they're from that's all that's on the market... And if they can drive manual in a country where the concept of traffic laws barely exist, anyone can learn.

Not that you were doing this paulca, but I've seen / known / spoke with a number of people who go to GREAT LENGTHS to overstate the "great technique" required to drive a manual automobile.

It takes a bit more trial, error and practice to drive a manual with any grace. I wouldn't fancy driving out into the night in rush hour traffic my first time in a manual!

Normaly this is where I would say "your mother drove a standard/RWD...etc, etc" but the longer term guys here are probably sick of reading it.
There is nothing weird or mysterious about driving a MT. It seems to become some sort of American myth back in the late 80s that only true car lovers can drive them.

If you don't drive manual you support communism. It's as simple as that.
