To all the die-hard supra fans, i'm sure it's disgraceful.

However, I really don't think a stock supra front end is anything to marvel at.

The headlights here flow well with the supra tails.

It's not even remotely close to being hideous. I've seen more twin owners butcher their cars aesthetics.

Supra's aren't anything special at all really. People just lose their fucking minds when they see them for whatever reason I still can't understand.

You know what makes the Supra so cool? The engine, and the chassis' capability of handling the power. That being said, there's probably 5-10 cars I'd swap a 2J into before actually spending the ridiculous asking price for a Supra. I've driven an N/A MKIV Supra before and it was just pathetic.

Eh, I agree with you but I think you're being overly harsh, for the time even the NA was quick, at 500 lbs heavier than your 86 (which I presume you sold because it was 'slow') with only a 60 ft-lb torque advantage and +10hp it's not going to light your pants on fire today.

It is analogous to today's AMG's and M's but with Japanese reliability.

Yes it is hype keeping prices inflated but there's justification there just like for the NSX, 3000GT, GTR, and FD RX-7, they are technological marvels to this day. Even if the headroom wasn't there (which is increasingly becoming a poor proposition as modern cars with less headroom catch up with less work required to reach the same performance levels) it'd still be coveted and sought after.

As for engine swaps, I'll take a modern Ford or Chevy crate engine any day.

Fingers crossed that the tech in the new Ford GT's 600hp 3.5L V6 trickles down to affordable levels, they're currently selling that block at 365hp 420 ft-lbs and it's been in a few hundred thousand F150's at this point and counting. Not to mention people are running the 2.3L over 400 whp on stock internals. California emission rules mean I need an engine and ECM newer than the chassis.

My thing is that I've been in so many Supras. From NA ones to 850whp TT ones. They're fun... But then again I've also been in JZ swapped 240s, ranging from 400whp to 800whp and it's just as crazy, if not, more. I won't argue styling cause it's all subjective. I like the cockpit like feel of the interior and the exterior is "fine" to be, but nothing special in my eyes. I feel like the FD rx7 and NSX were a hundred times better looking during that era.

In regards to why I sold my 86, I have posted numerous times in various different places why I sold it... But it had nothing to do with it "being slow". I actually kept mine N/A while all my friends turbocharged theirs and I still enjoyed mine more.

Why.... why would you attack my vision so. Have I erred and am now being subjected to ocular torture?

Thank you for this. I recently got a chance to drive a MK4 Supra and it was sorta underwhelming....

Thanks, didn't realize you interpreted 'cool' 'loosing their shit over' as looks, renders my post kinda useless.

The Toyota and Mazda partnership runs deeper than we thought.

I think the appeal of the Supra is that it was a niche car that was overpriced for its time and still is today thanks to a subpar movie that has spawned even worse sequels that I will still watch opening night. Regardless of the X amount of more capable vehicles out now for less cost, I will still stare at one driving by because I don't see one everyday. Unlike the 86. Where I can pass 5 on my way to work (not much compared to the 20 Altimas and 30 Camrys), and not have a single one of them wave back.

BINGO!
If not for the aforementioned movies and a high profile in some well known video games you could probably pick up a decent Supra for a reasonably cheap price now. Although certainly a capable car they are no where near the super machines that legend as made them out to be.
I expect all sorts of guys are currently staring at their monitor/phone/tablet now preparing for their scathing retorts!
