How does this button work!?

Hi guys,

this is the question for those east coast/snow terrain peeps. On your BRZ/FRS, in the middle console you should have a "sport-snow" button/switch.

Can anyone tell me if it works like a 3 way rocker switch, OR its a toggle between the 2 (meaning once it is pushed, it stays "powered on")

Further explaining my question, I am hoping this button is only momentary switch, meaning the button once pushed will send the ON signal to computer, but goes back to off position after that.

I've just purchased this to modify, hoping to just wire it up like a 3 way rocker.

anyone have done this please advise.

Thanks!

Here's the link on ebay.

I have that in mine. I played with it a couple of times and I think you just press whichever one is on to turn it off. Press it once to turn on and once again to turn off.

Thanks,

but when you press it, does the button itself stay "depressed" or it bounces back to normal position? this is what i meant by Momentarily ON then off.
once the signal is sent, the switch bounces back to normal position until it is pressed to another mode, such is to go off sport mode and to snow or normal mode.

You can probably feel that with your finger tip after you press it, and visually see if the button is compressed.

only the auto have this

snow starts car in 2nd gear and cannot go into 1st at all (if you put it in snow, it will stay in snow till you turn it off), also keeps revs low and trys to not give rear wheels too much torque for spin which can result in bad things in bad weather or fun things in bad weather.

Sport mode just hangs the revs on the high band of the rev-o-meter(), will stay on till you turn it off.

Digital signals bro :d its just like the buttons on your key fob for unlocking doors or locking. You press it but doesnt stick in and pops back up(even if not noticable).

I just took a video but this will only let me upload stills. The switch moves back to the central position after you press either snow or sport.

Be aware it doesn't close a conventional switch. It pushes a plastic finger that presses a rubber-clad button on a circuit board. There's a board inside the unit with all the little switch buttons mounted on it.

I'm curious what you're doing with it. I bought one myself with the thought of running a secondary horn to it, but after popping it open, I'm not sure whether I can make that work. I may rig up some separate contacts inside there instead.

Because I hate manuals. When I left England and came to Canada 15 or so years ago and drove my first automatic, I swore I'd never drive manual again. The AT BRZ is great fun l, and I can always paddle shift if I want to, but I never have yet.

Im planning to use it as my toggle switch for my Exhaust cutout, Sport for open, Snow for closed. Thanks for telling me about the circuit board, if it is true what you are saying, i would just plan to use the top button cover and glue a 3 way rocker below it to activate it the same way.. Currently the switch came with the cutout motor is a 3-way toggle, it functions as flick up (activates motor flip the valve one way ex. "open"), then it goes back to middle; then when you want to "close" valve, you flick the other way then the switch goes back to middle again. This switch is just purely ugly and antique.

With this switch, I can keep the car stealth/oem looking, slick and keeps the cops from questioning me if they pull me over.
