Corrupted OFT?

Yesterday I was in the process of gathering some rather large datalogs preparing for scaling my MAF sensor using my OFT

One of the logs was especially large and while collecting it the OFT prompted me that I had reached the maximum size and that I could save it, which I did.
After getting back home I used OFM to download the logs to my computer. The first two logs I was able to download, export as a CSV file and then delete from the OFT.
The last log which happened to be the large one, would hang on the downloading screen (the data would not show up on the OFM screen) and then would cause OFM to generate the windows _Not Responding_ error and OFM would crash. Went through the process several times, reinstalled OFM, tried a different USB port, all with the same result.

I contacted the guys at openflash and decided that the best course of action would be to return the car to the stock tune, and attempt to erase the device using OFM. OFT wrote the original tune back to the car and I went to erase the device using OFM. The option to erase the device was grayed out. Another call to openflash determined that my OFT had reached the limit of times it could be erased and that I would need to provide the serial number so they could add credits on their end which I did. They indicated that because it was late on a Friday, it may be until Monday before they could add the serial number credits and that my OFT would update when I connected it back to OFM and then allow me to erase it.
No problem, I understand these things take some time and that it eventually will get fixed.
I had just put some E85 back in the tank and was running the OTS Stage 2 EL tune at the time I figured that rather than let the car just sit in the garage with a stock tune on it I would flash it back to E85 and worry about getting the corrupt datalog off the OFT later next week once the credits were added back to my device. I flashed the E85 Rom back to the car, everything seemed to be fine. I then realized that my device no longer had pedal dance mode, none of the labels on the buttons were notbeing displayed and that the menus no longer looked the same. I immediately flashed the original tune back to the car and parked it, so that I don't lose my stock tune, and will wait until I can completely erase the device once openflash does there thing on their end.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a large datalog locking the device or any similar issues.
My conundrum is that I need a backup to this device should it fail. I recall @steve99 saying that a Tactrix cable could possible be used as a failsafe. Don't really care what it costs, but I need some advice on a redundant backup to the OFT. This happened at home and I have another car so I can deal with it, but had I been away and had a flash go south it would have been a much bigger inconvenience. I realize their are risks and fault no-one. Just looking for some advice on how to have some failsafes in place to recover on my own. @steve99, @Wayno, @Shiv@Openflash any suggestions?

Thats exactly why i bought a tactrix cable as well as oft

OFT is a magic device easy to use data logging all sorted has many safety features to stop you writing incorrect roms no need for laptop ect ect.

but its always good to have a backup it something goes south.

Tactrix will read/write any rom to any 86/frs/brz its a much more "raw" device and logging can be hard to set up.

but if you just want to read/write then all good, they cost about $170usa and ship in 3 days.

see tactrix info link below most of the stock roms their as well at end of post.

Thanks for the info. I like things to be simple and have some failsafes so I will continue to use the OFT. But I also realize that shit happens sometimes and I need the ability to have some redundancy. Looks like I will pick up a Tactrix cable as well. Cheap insurance.
