Glad to see newbies coming - don't worry about your time, make sure you get your technique down and the speeds will come!

DDT is an amazing track to learn from and pretty much has everything you need to get into track days.

TIPS:
1- Don't forget to full gas up and torque down your wheels before you start though! Bring a torque wrench, Crappy Tire currently has it on sale (55% off).
2- Boost up your tire pressures, I run almost 10psi over stock numbers - you do NOT want tires rolling on their sidewalls on the turns. BRING CHALK or white shoe polish! I will have chalk on me, come say hi if you forget. Walmart currently has a sale ($1.50 for 42 MASSIVE pieces). EDIT: Boost up your FRONT tire pressures. Whoops!
3- DO NOT USE YOUR HANDBRAKE WHEN YOU COME OFF. The staging areas are pretty flat so you shouldn't roll around. Slap it in first if you have to.
4- Follow but don't imitate the person in front of you. You will make the same mistakes they do! Analyze, process and learn. Speed will come later.

Most importantly, have fun! Watch and learn!

Ok, that makes a ton of sense.

Here I am in my bone stock S2k running Michelin Pilot Super Sports trying to get a 1:45 to 1:46 on DDT with 2 kinks. I've only been out to DDT twice. The first time was through Ian Law's Track School. The second time out was with Touge.ca's event which had been veeeery tentative because there were a few idiots out there.

Hopefully this event will be better regulated. I get the feeling I'll crack my personal best on the Oct 10th Ian Law lapping session.

Only a few? You must be luckier than when I went once (and the last time)

Were you on any prep team Will? Or did you just attend?

Yeah I was, watch my video from the last event - there's 300whp FWD Celica that goes right up my ass out the gate (first lap is ALWAYS warm up lap for me - you can clearly see me half throttle most of it) and I wave for him to pass. He then proceeds to have THE WORST LINES POSSIBLE and in the second lap, I am 90% sure he tried to e-brake turn.

I didn't bother posting up the videos from the other 3 runs but there was a silver Lancer that told 3 of us to pass on the inside of Turn 5. We'd fucking T-Bone him if we did.

I had shitty times that entire day, still had limited fun though.

Not sure if I want to go back. I'm trying to stay on DDT to become an expert on it before I migrate to another track.

I was part of the "staff" for the event at MIR, CMP and DDT. I was also helping with coaching at the DDT, WAY too much to do in a day!

Oh it will be. Its Will's fault but he convinced me to come out to my first trackday spring 2014, and it was with the SPDA guys. Definitely well organized and safety oriented. I think this will be my 5th or 6th ATTS day at the DDT all run by SPDA. (I haven't missed one since)

BTW.. SPDA membership comes with some benefits too.. should you think of joining.. like cheap tires, discounts on new Subaru's, discount at JRP...

Definitely joining SPDA after Sept 30th since I get the remainder of 2015 and all of 2016 :P

But yes, if they run a good event, I'm signed on for sure. I don't think I'm ever going back to Touge.ca's events. They're too buddy buddy with everyone and are afraid to lay down the law.

SPDA track days are extremely well organized. The only thing more organized is my GF when she lists all the car events I went to instead of housework

I have to agree with this. In three days, SPDA took me from a completely average beginner driver (~1:55) to a fairly competent driver (1:48.45) with stock tires, suspension, engine, etc.. If I went by myself or with other groups, I don't think I would have improved as fast.

I'm holding you to that!

Btw, does anyone know if we're going to be running one or two kinks? I hope they keep it at two kinks so I can have comparable data to my previous 2 trips out at DDT.

I'm sure SPDA will run a better event than Touge.ca - you couldn't get worse imho.

One Miata lost a wheel when we were there...

From the last 2 years, Intermediate and Beginner run 2 kinks, and advanced is 1 kink
