I suppose it's better than the NFL, where they just make it up as they go at least.

I'm not a renault fan but i always think better the devil you know. but yes that has happened, and if they do move on then i reckon it will be ferrari because mercedes dont want someone else fighting them for the win, and i think ferrari would like a bigger grid presence, there is a third option though... honda....:/

I'd really hate to see an engine manufacturer leave F1, we don't have enough as it is. Next year we're looking at 3 different engines

Renault will likely be buying the lotus team this year or next so expect them to stay in F1 regardless of losing redbull. They have invested millions into this power unit so if buying a bargain team like lotus is all they need to stay in, they will.

I entirely skipped F1 this weekend and honestly I actually forgot it was even a F1 weekend until my buddy's dad had it on the tv in the shop.

Well, that's good I can save a boatload of money now and cancel my DirecTV.

So Red Bull is basically fucked now. No matter which direction they go in, they are going to be a customer team competing with a works team. Like McLaren not getting as good of a Ford engine as Benetton in the early 90s.

They should convince BMW (or Subaru, considering the forum I'm in ) to get back in and do something liek McLaren is with Honda, minus the suck.

I think the more engine manufacturers the better. Let's get Toyota back in it to redeem themselves from their las dreadful campaign, what about BMW and Audi their motorsports heritage runs deep, Porsche is dabbling into Hybrid supercars now, why not? I mean, shit…what about Ford/Cosworth? So many companies out there and we have 3 engines to choose from...

I would love to see bmw return as engine provider for williams. BMW are probably the only ones who could give Merc a kick in the ass. Germans can get shit done, Ferrari is too self absorbed for its own good and are more focused on building the brand then building the car, Japanese manufacturers famously cant handle defeat.

Thats what happened to Toyota, they insited on developping in house using only Toyota engineers, once they realised they couldnt do it they just killed it rather then risk losing more races. Honda is heading down the same road, they are very candid about their unit and refused to take on new engineers for the project. They even keep mclaren in the dark about the development. Then they come out and say things like "equal power to ferrari engine" as if saying it will make it true. Its almost a carbon copy of toyotas failings, only somehow worse.

You make a very valid point to which I never realized when it comes to the Japanese manufacturers & joint ventures.

I wonder how much of an incentive it would take for either Honda or Toyota to consider joining forces with a dedicated hybrid/electric producer (Toyota & BMW for example since they have a sports coupe for the future).

Or better yet, Tesla + Ford or GM would be pretty cool for the American effort.
