No match for eating the salad......with these!

I never eat while driving but when I do, I get messy. Big burger, lots of ketchup, mayonnaise and burger fat dripping down my chin.

I know that the comments about an auto is better because of how easy it is to eat in it is tongue-in-cheek,but honestly, this is why manual IS better. While I can eat while driving a MT,I usually don't,and never have in my FR-S.

More importantly, the reason why MT is better than auto is because of the level on concentration that it take to actually drive, and drive safely.

Personally,I think is should be mandatory for all new drivers to learn and take their drivers test in a MT car.I'm willing to bet by making more skilled drivers that will reduce accidents.Maybe not by leaps and bounds, but sometimes a little goes a long way.

Type of transmission used doesnt represent the skill of a driver on the road and prevention of accidents. I do agree somewhat with your point, distracted driving is never good. But thats more dependent on who is behind the wheel, and nothing to do with the car

At vs. Stick on FR-S/BR-Z

After 12 yrs of instructing at various club DE track days, I changed my mind about wanting to stay w/a stick shift. I LOVE stick shift, but.....seeing how students in ATs (of various makes) were able to handle the shifting w/ no errors, I was sold. The AT in the FRS/BRZ intuitively knows when and how to rev match and downshift on a track, as long as it is in Sport mode. This is with or without using the paddle shifters or manual mode. It is amazing! You will never miss a shift, and you cannot make what has been called the Money Shift, where you downshift into a lower gear than you wanted, and the tranny then drives the engine to over rev and eat valves & pistons. No rev limiter will prevent this on a stick tranny. I have tracked my '14 FRS 4 or 5 times and absolutely love its action on the track. Yes, I admit missing doing my own shifting at times, but am always amazed at the intelligence of this system. I could never heel & toe to a level that I thought I should w/ my 85 Mk1 MR2. With this set up...no problem. Sign yourself up for a DE day and experience the pleasure of these cars.

If you have to concentrate to drive an MT for more then a week or so you had better go AT. Besides how is staring at a tach or shifter when deciding when or where to shift to not a distraction? I have read hundreds of time on here where people will tell you exactly what reves they were at when they shift for each gear. Since you can shift 3 or 4 times in 20 or 30 seconds that means they had their eyes off the road for a considerable time.

After getting used to a new car and learning the ratios and RPM drops from shifting, I very rarely look at the tach in every day driving.

Honestly from reading about the auto in the post linked from this thread I almost want to try it. Too bad the series.blue was only manual, that red interior makes my eyes bleed.

Like I have said before I will soon be teaching my grandson to drive. The very first order of business will be to tape over the tach. I want his concentration on the road not a gauge and if you can learn to drive MT by feel and sound alone then you are miles ahead of those that can't.
He is currently saving to buy my car for whatever the dealer offers for trade in value when it is trade in time (which coincides with his 17th birthday). This means he should be very good at MT by the time he actually owns it. His birthday present that year will be some formal track instruction where he can learn some better control and introduce him to the sport (see Strat not anti track just anti breaking my DD).
