That's not a bad price at all. Eventually got a set of yoko a drive
R1's for R1200 at autostyle and fitted at Mintys.

A risky wait, no doubt considering the state of the rears. What troubles me the most is that I have checked my alignment periodically. I'll be honest in saying that this is my first car, and I wouldn't have the know-it all wisdom (which is why forums like this are awesome). What I did notice though during my last wheel alignment prior to my change of wheels, was that the alignment model was based on a Yaris.... Now I'm no expert to go point out to the fitment centre that they aren't doing the right thing because I wouldn't know myself..... Would it play that big a role?

Hell yes, like chalk and cheese.
Front wheel drive vs rear wheel drive - totally different alignment.
That's likely your problem.
I'd klap their ears so hard that their nuts ring

So the 86 stock has positive camber in the front (at least, it definitely looks that way, and the stock setup in the Assetto Corsa sim is also set up like that, LOL). Would fitting wider tyres affect the required alignment at all?

I actually have no idea how alignment gets adjusted :/. I don't think negative camber is a good idea for me though, because I drive highway every day and the uneven wear will become an issue.

How long does it take/cost to do an alignment change with crash bolts? I'd maybe consider switching before and after track days.

I've never changed my alignment ever. It's still exactly as it came from the factory.
I checked alignment after doing crash bolts (which gave me -1.5° camber) and the alignment was fine, so I left it as it was.

Crash bolts cost under R100 from a Toyota dealer, and they're easy to fit.
1.5° neg camber shouldn't chew your tyres on the highway, but it will save you a lot of outside shoulder wear when you go on track.

Think it was +-R90 for the 2bolts from Toyota.
SU003-02818
I have tire tread depth gauge and the outside was slightly more worn than inner from day to day driving. After fitting the bolts and a day a red star - they just about exactly the same. Haven't done an alignment yet though.

Thanks for the info. No stock at Toyota or Subaru unfortunately so I've ordered the whiteline ones which can give you up to -1.4degrees apparently.

There's a trick to max'ing out your crash bolts.

After you fit them, don't tighten the two strut bolts up tight, just have them a bit loose and drive onto a block of wood say 2" high with the OUTSIDE of your tyre. That will give you as much neg camber as you can get. Then tighten both bolts, and repeat with the other side. Then check on the alignment machine. If both sides are nearly the same, then that's it, else adjust the higher camber side back a fraction to get them roughly the same.

I find it amazing that Toyota don't have stock.
Did they say how long it would take to order them?

It does. Mail Julian ASAP, he said he's placing the order this Tuesday then he can ship together from CT.

They didn't but last time I needed something "from Japan" it took 3 months and they didn't bother to phone when it arrived.

Barloworld just said they didn't have, McCarthy checked if any other dealers had but no luck there either.

Lucky. Oh well, the Whiteline ones should be here in a week or two, it's just sickening knowing they're going to cost almost 8 times as much.
