Results? did you do a shielded and non-shielded back to back and take logs with different throttle percentages steady?
There are guys in the 86Cup using the shielding, and they seem to think it works (butt dyno).

Sorry, I could have sworn the person I was originally responding to was talking about doing this to the stock intake.
At speed, on my stock intake in 94° ambient temps, the IAT was never above 11° over ambient and most of the time within 5-7°. |

Kenji of Winmax seems to think it helps. The air box looks pretty stock to me. ![]() ![]() One sure way for me to find out, I guess. I'll do it for science! lol

At one point when I stopped to fill up (car up to temp), and got back in to leave. The IAT had heat soaked to 145°. Just pulling out of the lot it was already starting to come down and within a few miles of stop and go traffic was already back down to around 115°.
I suspect if I got on the highway it would have dropped to the 7-10 range very quickly. No logs, I was just reading the OFT screen. Could there be a difference? Possibly. But I suspect when you are talking about that close to ambient it would fall in the "statistical noise" category. |

Hey guys I am partly dont my TRD air box. Taking so god dam long to do haha. I am not doing true proper testing with this but rather just the torque app on my headunit. I will report back when I am all done and have taken it for a few drives. I would upload some pics but they are too large and I cant edit them from my phone

Lol I don't want to put that kind of effort into this. Thinkof it as a "pre test" and if I feel it makes a difference thensomeone can come along and do a proper test. If I feel it makes no differencethen no one else has to waste their time with this haha! It does look kind of cool but I am not sure if I will keep it on when I am all done Edit: and I am using @Mishimoto gold foil tape and it is really nice to work with. |

I'm really excited about this thread.
Thermal management really interests me, and I'm curious to see if this is a potentially meaningful modification. Even if the difference is very small, the cost is low.

I will keep you up to date then. I will also be doing a header wrap but I need to order more wrap. It will be coming with my new oil cooler core some time later this month.

If you use the search function, you'll see that I've already done this, and I've already used an infared gun to measure and record tempatures....
since this pic was taken I've added the silver heat shield to the front of the mishimoto pipe.... IAT temps are extremely low even sitting in traffic on this car. |
