What you need to do is find your local SCCA chapter and find out when the next AutoX (solo2) event is. Take the car there and learn what the car's capabilities are in a fun and safe manner. On a short AutoX course with tons of turns, it doesn't really matter whether you're in an auto or manual. You will see plenty of autos turning in faster times than manuals and vice versa. It all comes down to your driving abilities and understanding the limits of your car's setup. Did I mention it is FUN and SAFE?
As this is my DD, AT made the most sense. I doubt that I'll be able to see track days but I do enjoy the occasional AutoX events and back country/hillside road cruises on Saturday mornings. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I don't get this. I've talked to (literally) hundreds of people about my car and not received a single negative comment about it being an Auto, except on this forum. Must be a California thing!

I never had a manual before this car and I'm soooo happy I got the MT.
Once I learned to drive, heel toe, rev matching. Wow. It feels so good, especially at the track. If there was an auto option like PDK or DSG I would have gotten that but this is a cheap car and its just a basic auto that can rev match and also the gear ratios for fuel economy.

I've had one person say something to me in person about it, and she was like, legitimately offended that I own an AT.

Nope. I think it is more of a young guy thing. The same guys that get worked up over the numbers and stat in general I would guess. Oh and let's not forget the whole RWD is a new and mystical invention that requires a special skill set to drive crowd.

These debates are pointless. You buy the car (AT/Manual) that best suits your individual needs. Doesn't matter what others think. About the father who was embarrassed about his AT. Do you think Lewis Hamilton is embarrassed about his AT/DCT in his Formula 1 Mercedes?
