I like the RC350 for what it is. Looks like a comfy and sporty GT coupe with Lexus reliability. Too bad it is 50k+ for the F sport.

The true bigger, fatter FRS/GT86 would be the RC 200t which was just announced in Europe.
2.0l turbocharged engine, 245hp, 350nm, 8spd auto. aka "snorefest" http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/20...ormance-specs/

No, the RC350 nor the RC F I think come close enough to what those who want to upgrade directly up from a FRS would want. The 86 platform is far more sports oriented and don't make particularly good GT cars whereas it seems the RC is a good GT car that attempts to do sporty yet I think the 86 twins do GT driving better due to the good seat and some of the FA20's refinement than the RC does sporty because of its great weight.
A much much closer attempt is going to be the Toyota Mark X GRMN. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EzaQ1gVkDQ"]MARK X GRMN Impression driving by Manabu Orido - YouTube[/ame] Sadly that's a special edition limited to 100 units and IIRC Japan only. |

The RC is not a more expensive FR-S. The two are as unrelated as a Corvette and an ATS Coupe.

I really wish these Japanese vids had English subtitles. I recorded my test-drive of a Mark X 350s Gs (basically the more common AT-equipped version with no handbrake) at the Toyota facility in Odaiba, just never bothered to upload the footage (anyone wanna see it?). It's a pretty fun car with ample power for Japanese roads. My dream is to LS swap one though: gives you essentially Mercedes C63 AMG performance but with Toyota reliability.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this, but I'm not sure how an LS swap gives you "Toyota reliability".... Read that with I'm a big GM engine fanboy (I've had multiple GM engines go well over 250,000 miles in DD) and this is the first thing I would think to do if my Subie engine bit the big one.

But with more power (525hp in the LS376/525 crate engine), a fatter torque curve, a lower center of gravity, and a manual transmission.

To look at it another way, it's like a Holden Commodore/Chevy SS.....that weighs ~600 lbs less.

If you're talking about LS swapping an RC, I'm not figuring out how you think it'll weigh 600lbs less than an SS. Bc it won't.

![]() If I were to LS swap a Japanese coupe, it would be a S15 Silvia. You can get NA AT ones for ~$3.5k or less sometimes.
