Could you believe that this turbo kit was under $3,500 back in the day? It was also one of the first of its kind to be approved by CARB!

http://www.superstreetonline.com/how...erx-turbo-kit/

Kit included a Garrett Turbo, Aluminum Intake Manifold, Cast Iron Exhaust Manifold, Billet Fuel rails for (4) primary and (4)secondary injectors...and the list goes on...

Sadly, even with all the efforts in engineering a work of art, it just didn't take off. There are many theories as to why. But many believe it had to do with the stigma of "American Muscle" in a JDM car.

Despite the non-existent advertising on these Honda/Acura kits, Edelbrock is still pouring, machining, and shipping a healthy amount of Honda manifolds all around the world!

Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself. The 86 community seems to be open to non-JDM aftermarket upgrades. We're starting to see this JDM trend go away and these AMERICAN companies coming up to show their worth. AMS, CBRD, Velox Motorsports, Aviva Instruments, Frontline Fab,Toxic Fab, and Edelbrock just to name a few. I'm talking about companies that actually design/engineer and MAKE their parts in the U.S. and not the American companies that order their components overseas and re-sell them! It's not often you find something that says "MADE IN AMERICA" anymore. But when you do, you can bet it was done right!

Oh that was why, honda.

I love the look of the kit, it kind of looks like a dralthi from wing commander, and the fact that they are so sure of it to offer any type of warranty is impressive. I wonder if they would do the cover in WRB.

I was just thinking about how much it would cost to do a full na build and that with all it would take just getting a supercharger would be easier and only a little more expensive.

Apologies for being capt. pedantic, but that's actually a D-series motor. They were the cheaper alternative to the B-series and didn't get near the power levels of the B motors with similar levels of modification.

I'm sure that we can find examples of well-made and crappily-made US and JDM parts alike. But for something like forced induction, which has further-reaching effect on the engine/drivetrain than a cosmetic part, or even a suspension/brake part, a domestic manufactured kit gives me greater peace of mind than an overseas one. While quality may be equal, it's usually easier to get tech support in case of issues, replacement parts etc. so, while quality is important, so is logistics/support.

having the manufacturer local to me adds even more to my comfort level.

Correct, the plot is for the CARB certified set up which leaves everything stock.

How well would the stock transmission handle that kind of power over an extended period of time?

You could look up the element tuning build. He documents pretty well the limitations of the stock transmission. His failures seemed to happen at power levels quite a bit higher than this.

Like SkiRide mentioned, there have been lots of other FI builds around for a while with much more power that have not had any problems with the stock transmission. The stock clutch on the other hand...
