At one time, I played clarinet professionally part-time in symphony orchestras. It was a great job simply because the money was good, you showed up for 3 1/2 hours, got a 15 minute break, did this three or four times, did the concert and collected your (pretty nice) paycheck. Plus, most of the time it was a lot of fun! Of course, it's a lower hourly rate if you count in the prep time learning the parts, but once you know them it's pretty easy to brush up for the next time it's played.

When I moved to Austin I had to stop. Why, you might ask? TOO DAMN MANY REALLY GOOD CLARINETISTS HERE AND NOT ENOUGH GIGS TO GO AROUND!!!!

Well hello there! I got a job for you!

jk

Anyways, I have a decent wage at my job and love it. For now. But I do want to make extra cash. However, I work an odd rotation schedule where I'm on for 6, 12 hour shifts then off for 6 days.

Looking heavily into investing currently. I do have a 401k but that's for retirement (40+ years from now...). Want something more short term.

Thought about laddered CoD's but read inflation could eat at any gains. Not ready for the open market right now. This is tough lol

I want that schedule!
Oh wait that would cut into my forum time with all those days off.
Nevermind.

You probably had the attention of about 80% of this forum for a bit there.
Especially now that almost all our female members seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.

I have umpired baseball for the last 15 years. Everything from Little League to Junior College. I volunteer for LL now and use it as a tax write off for the payed gigs, but High School pays $78/game and JC pays $140/game. Most games only last 2-2.5 hrs and I do 2-3 a week. When I retire (I'm only 26 though, lol) my goal is to work NCAA Div I. Per diem to cover nice hotels and around $1200/weekend series.

Most guys I work with also work other sports. Vollyball is the easiest from what I hear. Then there is basketball and football too.

Seriously though, I don't have a side job, not that I'm making a lot of money. I just value my time off more than what someone is willing to pay in a second job. I have considered it, especially now with my newly acquired BRZ.

Start with high school. Good motivation to do better is at the college/pro level the players are legal.

Don't know that I would get much work during the 3 week Canadian beach volleyball season though.
