LOL mine like to try and eat me! The door stays are so weak in mine its not even funny haha! But over all I am still 10/10 in love with it! I feel like all the mods I have done might be a big part of that but these are amazing cars.

This is why I have zero plans to sell this car, so much more left to learn from it. Feeling the car move around and react to the things I tell it to do is magic. At times I still wish I had something with character that shined through even when sitting in traffic, I know it would wear thin (and it's a huge compliment to the 86 that it doesn't) but I still want it.

Torque has more to do with the combustion of the fuel than the engine layout, the biggest factor in torque is displacement, bigger explosion = more twist. The reason the FA20 knocks a home run in the torque department compared to other NA 2.0L 4-cylinder engines is the direct injection from the D4-S allows for maximum torque out of that 2.0L displacement.

Until recently nobody has really done a naturally aspirated low displacement sporting motor with direct injection. Look at the new Miata, the ND blows the 86's torque curve out of the water as it pulls from 3k rpm all the way to 5k and it still keeps that power up to the 6.5k mark. If Honda were to enter the field they would have similar if not better torque numbers provided they have their DI system working well on an I4.

Edit: 9/10, don't want anything else on the market that isn't 10+ years old at this point.

Oh I know that displacement plays a part. That's why I was using a 2L vs 2L for the most part argument. My RSX felt way more anemic under 3500 rpms.

Also I agree this car is a 9/10 for me also. I think a header/tune and 4.67-4.88 FD for my auto will make the car a 10/10 for me.

Also that dyno shows that the NC is just 5 whp better than a ND. I thought it would be a 10whp difference.

Because of direct injection vs port injection, not because of I4 vs Flat 4.

Attributing the low end torque of the FA20 to it's boxer layout is not correct.

Yeah I know of that too. D/I is a good ingredient that Honda seems to not want anything to do with. I think they should've made the K24 D/I in the Civic Si. It would probably make 220-225hp/190tq.

@SUB-FT86 Honda has been using DI for ~4 years now...

@Tcoat thanks for rubbing it in, but less about color and more about the feeling. It's very mild mannered on the streets, definitely a positive, I'm just crazy and want to like, mess with the choke in the morning.

Ahhhh the days of some of my classics where starting the car was like firing up an aircraft. Needed to have a checklist if anybody else was going to start them.

1961 Karmann Ghia Starting Checklist

1) Pump gas pedal twice
2) Pull choke out all the way
3) Give another half pump of gas pedal
4) Ensure clutch fully disengaged and/or shifter completely in neutral
5) Turn key to on position
6) Press starter button on floor and let crank (while crossing fingers that the generator kept the battery charged last drive)
7) Give another half pump on gas pedal
8) Push starter button again
9) Repeat until car starts
10) After car starts wait 30 seconds and push choke half way in
11) Rev living crap out of car for 30 seconds
12) Push choke all the way in
13) Put in first gear (could take two or three attempts until warmed up)
14) Release parking brake and pray it is not seized up
15) If you stall or parking brake is seized turn off car.
16) To restart see step one.

And guys here complain because they hear a funny noise.

Because there's no "character" to cover it up!

If we were busy keeping the car on life support or overwhelmed with all the other noises I think there'd be a lot fewer complaints.

I'm not satisfied until I pay it off and start building/modding it. There's always something satisfying about modding your own car and watching her grow into something more!

The cars ive bought:
2000 Honda Prelude, 2007 Honda Civic SI
The list of cars I've lusted after:
Integra Type-R
S2000
RX7
My Honda Prelude felt special every time i sat in it. It felt like a purpose built platform that my Civic never got close to. It felt special on the straights and special on the twisties. I felt that what it needed to be perfect was better weight distribution, 6 speed, lighter weight, and RWD. Guess what the FRS is... The FRS isnt perfect but when you are on a winding road, its not even in the same league as the hot hatches of the world. People dont understand this until you get in the car and take a FRS\BRZ around a corner.

Love the car, the power like many have been complaining can be remedied by headers + tune or go FI. The only downside I would say about the car that I particularly dislike is the Aisin transmission. It's a bit TOO clunky in 2nd and 5th gear, not saying that notchiness isn't good, but when you have trouble putting it in 2nd gear without making it a clunky noise it's less than pleasant. The chassis is on point on this platform, and the handling is superb. The motor is OK, but what do you expect at a sub 26k price point?

Most of how satisfied you will be with your FR-S will stem from:

1. The previous cars you owned.
2. Whether or not you had realistic expectations when purchasing this car.
3. How much your purchased the car for.

In my case I came from an old Honda accord so the "lack of tech" and "noisiness" don't bother me since my previous ride had even less tech and was twice as noisy... I also did plenty of research before buying the car so was well aware of the "lack of power" / torque that many have commented / complained about as well as the blindspot "issue"... Lastly I purchased the car used, for what I believe was a good OTD price.

So all-in-all I have been very satisfied with my purchase... 9/10 (knocked a full point because there are the random days where I question whether I should have bought a brand new FR-S as opposed to a used one!)
