Cannot see the photos. If they try to deny my warranty claim I will contest it. I think we have a lot of members here with warranty repairs already done to support my claim. This damage is definitely caused by a defect in the part. All your receipts and information will help. Thanks!

Was reading through this thread and wondering noticed most of you are having this issue with your engine OFF. I'm having the opposite effect; I'm getting a slightly squeak and crunchy clutch pedal when the engine is running. If I turn off the engine, the clutch pedal gets smooth again and no squeaks.
That being said, if I let the car sit for a few hours or over night, it's pretty smooth again even with the engine off. I haven't been able to find a way to constantly replicate the rough/ rubbing/ crunchy clutch. |

It would be great if someone does a DIY on how to do this.
Including what type of lube and how much to use. Never mind found the diagram a page or so back. I lubed the exposed part. No Joy. With the proper scope could you get to the fork without cracking open the bell housing? There's a bit of clearance between the fork lever and the housing when you pull the boot up from the housing. BTW: That bell housing boot doesn't seal very well, Wouldn't surprise me if water from rain and car washing gets in there and causes issues. Quote:

If you've already greased up the clutch fork and it still squeaks, I'd be looking at the clutch release bearing. Maybe a trip to the dealership if still under warranty and get it fixed before it completely fails like mine did.

I'm having a similar experience. Update 3: I dropped my car off this morning for the third time for this same issue. When I dropped it off, I told them: "I don't care how much it costs for the diagnostic fee but I want you check my throwout bearing". About 5 hours later, sure enough.... They called me back and told me that I was right all along. My throwout bearing is shot. So my standard 3 year factory warranty has just expired this past May and Toyota is trying to claim that these parts are under that warranty and not the 5 year power train warranty. BUT since my warranty date was so close, they would go ahead and cover it under warranty. (seriously wtf?) They also said that the issue is due to Driver error and idling too much with the clutch engaged pressing on the pressure plate too often. I have a hard time believing that after only 17,000 miles my shit is burnt up. Even if I was the world's worst stick driver it shouldn't fail that quick in my humble opinion.... Either way it's being replaced and I will post a screenshot of the service ticket for this thread to view. Some of the parts are on back order (maybe that tells you something) so I will have to drive it gingerly until Friday or so when the parts come in. I noticed someone had mentioned that this thread's activity picks up during the summer time. I live in one of the hottest and most humid climates in the States, South Louisiana. Not sure if the weather has any effect on this issue we are all experiencing though. Just throwing that out there. |

@MastasmurF your car is a MY2013 as well? I have a feeling more and more owners of this car will be getting the same issue as they get closer to and past 20K miles.
I'm still waiting on Toyota Corporate customer service to call me. The dealer service director is "helping me out" and wants me to pay $1080 to replace flywheel, clutch, and bearing, while the clutch disc and flywheel is still clearly serviceable. The pressure plate was obviously damaged by the seized release bearing. Aside from some hot spots caused by my "performance driving" all the damage to the clutch system was due to the failed bearing.

No, it drives fine. Once I hit 5krpms it does make a bit of noise. Hard to describe. Don't know if that related though. I'll see after my stuff is replaced.
I knew a first gen car would have some issues down the line when I bought it. =/ I'm just glad I'm catching it now and not later. @ solidONE That's unfortunate about your situation... Yes mine is a 2013. I actually bought the first one in my area xD It just happened by a bit of chance too. Totally happy I did though, love this car. |

I'm gonna have to bring mine back in and get them to really look at it. I have a feeling my dealer is going to tell me to give up because they've already checked it and nothing is wrong. The squeak and crunch thing is getting old.
My car is a December '12 build. |

Tell them to check your throwout bearing even if it costs a diagnostic fee. It takes them about 4-5 hours. If they find it to be defective then you shouldn't have to pay and it should be covered under warranty. I should be getting mine back today... |
