Wow $32.5k for 900 added miles and dash pulled and wires spliced for an aftermarket nav unit. Quite a premium for some "additions." I don't see anything outstandingly special between this First 86 and the non-First 86 cars that came out a few weeks later other than the latter are in newer condition, selling for less, and their increasing abundance will only make it harder for a flip to happen. I feel sorry for the seller... sometimes it's hard to see outside your tunnel vision and view your sale realistically from the general consumers' perspective.

Gotta commend the HK sellers on this thread... their quick turn around at least shows they're flipping it right.

ppl are flipping their June quotas for around 20k HKD. I'm thinking if i should pick this car up in June. Cuz in the end i'll still have made money and get the car!!! I'm not even sure if I should keep the parts I already ordered, or sell it... its taking up space in my stock room LOL
Yeah, I know it's a huge premium, but there is no way I'm going to get a Toyota version if there is a Subar version! Ha ha.

I think they're out of stock on BRZs though. Mine is only due in in late Aug/early Sept. The LAUNCH will be in June/July.

Seems there are always fools waiting to over pay when a new product comes out. Most probably have buyers remorse after the hype and prices fall off in short order.

I travel to Hong Kong twice a year for work. I'm an engineer for a toy company and we make all our products in southern China (Shenzen). I love visiting HK on the weekends. It's an amazing city with lots to do and see. Although, I would never want to drive a BRZ or FR-S around HK....

On the road up the Dragon's Back, now that's a different story.....any of you guys driven on that road or any of the roads that go up to the Peak?

The tax on cars is there because cars are a luxury product. You can get around HK perfectly well, and for next to nothing (compared to most developed countries), using public transport. The tax is a sliding scale tax, so I think the part of a car which costs over HK$300,000 is taxed at 75%.

On the plus(?) side, environmentally-friendly cars get a tax discount. This sometimes leads to odd situations, for example the Q7 333hp which actually costs about HK$50K (I think) less than the Q7 272hp even though they had the same engine. I think it was because the 333hp model had some Euro V tweaks which meant that it satisfied some CO2 to weight ratio and/or fuel efficiency limit: http://www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/en...e_cars.html#3b

Sadly, the only Subarus which qualify for this at the moment are the R1 and the R2.

I am very keen to drive one around HK. I think it's almost the perfect city for it actually. I do drive on the roads you have mentioned (particularly the latter). However, I usually prefer biking. Mountain biking on the Dragon's Back, road cycling on the road (Shek O Road) and right up to the garden at the top of the Peak. There are also other good roads which you obviously haven't had the chance to check out!

So I take it the "luxury" tax isn't re-assessed when the car is re-sold?

No. It's just treated as part of the price of a car.
