23.7 average MPG, is that bad?

I get just about the exact same milage, 23.5-24. california 91 octane, and oft stage 2 tune, and aggressive driving for the most part.

Mileage is inversely proportional to fun factor.

I see 23-25 in suburban driving and I like hot rod starts and goosing around turns and what not. I also like to keep it 5-7k rpm when I'm having fun, out of the torque dip band.

I did a 2200 mile trip this summer and saw 32-34 mpg with a mix of freeway and two lane driving. I also enjoyed several tanks of no ethanol 91 octane gas. In Iowa of all places. Hard to find that stuff around Atlanta.

Btw, if you "top off" when filling up it affects the accuracy of the computer calculated mpg by 2-3 mpg, at least it did on my trip. I kept track of actual calculated vs computer for the trip but I lost that scrap of paper.

FWIW I get ~26mpg average, which represents a decent amount of highway commuting (a ~90mile round-trip commute a few days a a week, not driving in a particularly fuel-conscious manner), a bit of city driving, and my weekend / occasional weekday fun drives (~100 mile drives in the mountains using a lot of throttle). If I didn't have some longish highway trips to bump the numbers up, I'm sure I'd be sitting down where you are.

I would say its on the lower end of the spectrum, I get about 25 to 26mpg and average around 30-32mpg mixed highway and local, unless I am going on some fun runs.

I tried resetting the avg mpg display when driving in the horrendous streets of San Francisco and I couldn't get it to go above 20mpg if I didn't shut the engine off. Seems pretty standard for cars in the 2800-3000 pound range. The engine is very prone to enrichment so you'd be burning even more gas than me if you don't have a tune like I do.

Somehow, I averaged 26.5 on E85 over 20 gallons, even after a hard mountain run over the weekend. Granted, I was mostly doing highway speeds, besides driving half a mile to work and back home every day.

So my opinion - there's something wrong with your car.

Actually, high altitude means less air, so less fuel needed to keep the appropriate AFR.


I'm also at about 5000ft, and get 30-32mpg (MT6).
Though 24-26 on E85.

But then the power output drops, so you open the throttle further to make more power, and more air and fuel go in

I found I didn't lose as much MPG as I expected on E85 as well. It appears to be because the speeds I'm usually at on the highway rests in the torque dip zone which seems to labor the engine a bit. E85 helps a hell of a lot in that area so it appears that might be why.

My short commute is all stoplights and acceleration/braking. Hardly any steady state driving, and I get ~24mpg.

I only get 30+mpg when I have the cruise set on the freeway for long distances.

That being said, my old Normally Aspirated 2.5L Impreza which weighed less than the BRZ and had AWD, only got 24mpg on the freeway and mostly 19-20mpg driving the same commute...

So I consider 24mpg to be damn good. The only way I could really get better mileage would be a hybrid, but my freeway mileage wouldn't be much better (Used to have a Lexus CT200h in the family, and it would get ~35mpg on the freeway at best and about that around town).

I just did a trip from MD to MN and back and managed 33 MPG with the Vortech S/C.

That does make sense. Having an unequal length header helps even more.
On 91, I can usually average ~35 going 75-80mph.
