My on-board says 30 MPG and I drive relatively hard 20 mile commute to work each way, back country roads/highway.

If I suddenly started seeing 24 MPG, I would assume something was wrong and take it to the Dealer.

AND I am high altitude, so I assume that I should be getting worse mileage than the same car at sea level.
So my opinion - there's something wrong with your car.

I suspect that the reason for 20 mpg is because those 7 miles are a LOT of fun! See emoticon above.

I get pretty much right at 27 mpg in mixed traffic, not trying at all to save gas.

In 66,856 miles and 197 tanks of fuel, I've averaged 32.68MPG with the extremes per tank being 27.60 on the low end and 36.7 on the high end. This includes several stints of mountain driving as well as my normal car-foolery around stoplights and turns. My accelerator foot would do Thor's hammer proud.

The 27.60MPG tank was almost all in-town driving, although not traffic jam driving. I have had other tanks with higher MPG where I was stuck in extended traffic jams in Atlanta traffic though.

The one thing I wish the car had was an average speed indicator. My last DD and most of my other cars have that.
As @stugray said, if my average dropped to what others are seeing I'd be concerned, but there are just too many variables to say what is or isn't the "correct" mileage for the car.

I definitely didn't buy it to baby it! my mileage was closer to 23 until oft, headers and exhaust. now it's difficult to keep it below 5000 rpm. sounds so good

Automatics get around 4mpg better - so note that when reviewing other people's stats.

When I switched from stock Primacys to Pilot SS, my fuel economy went from 28mpg to 26mpg. When I just do short trips a bunch I've gotten 23-24mpg. California 91 octane isnt helping.

But your hard miles might be better, what is your average speed? Are you in 6th gear most of the time? Do you floor it all the time and slam the brakes? Is it mild weather or can it get super cold or super hot. There are way too many variables in this type of thing to simply compare the mileage of two people.

You'd be able to compare your own mileage but everyone drives differently, and those differences can add up to huge numbers.

MPG is inversely proportional to Smiles. My BRZ is my daily so there are few smiles. my weekend rides get 8 - 10 mpg with big grins.

With a lot of people thinking 6th is only for the highway, these low numbers don't surprise me...

I got just over 28mpg last tank and it's a good mix of city and highway.

if you ask drift office what his preference in gas is, he'll go Chevron, Chevron, Chevron Costco, Shell.

The nice thing about costco gas, is that its always fresh because they go through it so fast

I pity the guys that are 98% stop and go.
i see similar, dash read out around 32, i average 30 (fluctuate between 28 and 32). lots of back roads doing 50-65, several rips to much faster than that merging and passing. 36691 miles and 121 fill ups recorded lifetime average 29.4. I can also tell you that i've spent $4,409.88 in gas since i've bought the car.

I was waiting for you to post...

When ever I worry that the twins don't get good enough mileage for my liking, l just re-read your thread

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86637

In my acura, I was getting 23-24 mpg mostly highway @ 80 mph. Now, I'm getting 27-28 mpg if i slow down to 60-65 mph and try to keep the revs down when taking off.

There are other advantages to better MPG. Brakes that go 75K, Tires that go 75K etc. Financially, I could care less and can easily afford to get 8 mpg but I am old and just enjoy the BRZ for what it is. Sitting low, never having to take more than one passenger and the occasional blast through an on ramp keep me happy.
