Another Unichip not cooperating - p0172 engine code
Hey guys...
I KNOW this has been asked before... i've done extensive searches on it... I'm getting extremely frustrated with my unichip. I have been getting the P0172 Code with the CEL and Traction light (as per normal "safe mode"). I have talked to Jack... who is very willing to chat and has been very responsive... but not overly helpful with trying to Troubleshoot. He has advised me... As it seems that it has gone out to many of us that had similar problems... that it is caused by a "vacuum leak" in the Intake system, and he advised me to check to make sure all of the seals were done correctly around the pipes. I have of course done this, and un-insitalled/reinstalled the unichip several times to make sure all of the connections were tight. I still get the CEL with P0172 it usually takes a while to kick on the first time, then I reset with my code clearer, and it takes less time before it shows up again. SO... i pose to you.... PLEASE WITHOUT TROLLING ABOUT UNICHIP... has anyone actually figured this out yet? I have: Cleaned the Maf Checked all the electrical connections checked the ground confirmed that the selector is working tried a large variety of maps (including all of the variations with "fuel out") installed it several time with countless reflashes of the ecu. checked all of the connections on my intake I would PREFER to stick with it... a) because i know it WORKS... there is a NOTICABLE difference when it is running well before the CEL comes up (sometimes for several days), b) it is already $ and time spent, and c) i am warranteed until Aug 2017.... and I would prefer to use a pigy back to not void it. So please... Anyone have any thoughts on what it may be, or what I have missed... or honestly... if i should just say eff it... and get a proper tune. (because thats what i'm leaning towards) Thanks

If you remove the unichip, do you still get the code?

^ That ^ The code is also for running too rich so I think ithas to do with the unichip. IMO you should get a ECU TEK tune I tuned my carwhen it had less than 1000km's lol. Warranty... aint nobody got time for that!! |

My experience was almost identical to yours. I'm sure my thread was one of the ones you read, if you searched here. I removed my Unichip some time last year and haven't had a P0172 code since.
My Unichip is for sale, BTW...

For the year I had a Unichip installed, I had no issues. If the issue goes away when you remove it, I wonder if you've got an incorrect tune loaded on it.

honestly, it sounds to me like it's not worth the time and effort to me. sell the unichip if you can for ~200 (I don't know what the going rate is for them). buy a used OFT for around 400. one time flash that is easy to go back to stock and i'm guessing you won't have the issues. I know you said you are set on it but I wouldn't be interested in the constant hassle of something not working.

Nope Runs like a champ. I even had it run through "under warranty" because it was throwing the code. I removed the chip... dealer couldn't replicate the conditions... so they "couldn't understand" why it would throw the code. (didn't tell them about the unichip) I honestly think.... Openflash is the way I want to go (legitimately) from what I have been reading... but I figured i would try giving it one more chance.

One would hope that Jack would weigh in with a suggestion, but all I ever got from him was that there must be a vacuum leak. I think 7+ months without a code after removing the Unichip rules that out. Oh well, live and learn.
