I realize this has been discussed ad-nauseum, but for the first time ever I filled up at a Shell station (the Chevron across the street was too busy) and I've never heard crickets so loud. I never really understood the annoyance with them until now.

I really can't explain it (and probably no one else can either) but I have had the opposite experience. If I use Chevron, crickets come a-callin'. Use Shell, no problem. But from monitoring IAM and knock on my OFT, I found that the Chevron fuel tends to be slightly better for me. So gimme the crickets, with a side of Techron please.

Like Pmok, I've had the opposite happen, where Shell got rid of the crickets. I've actually been using chevron for the last 6 mos now since I have near my work, and the crickets never came back. I really do think the high press pump just has a really long break-in period.

Here's a brain teaser- I've been using all types of fuel (shell, chevron, safeway, etc) and have not heard the crickets at all since I got the car used with 10k miles. UNTIL yesterday. No major change to fuel, no major change to driving, they just showed up. (It must be mating season for them)

Thats funny you guys have had the opposite experience. I think it has nothing to do with the brand of gas you use. I don't mind it either way, I just fill up wherever is most convenient. Just had never heard them as loud as they are now.

Haha yeah this is what I figured, more of a coincidence that they started being loud right after I filled up at a Shell station.

maybe it's just contagious like a zombie virus for cars. Park next to someone with crickets at a meet, and you'll get crickets the next time you tank up. LOL

I thought I would try this for the first time this afternoon. Ended up setting 2 car alarms off......

So yesterday, I took my car in to Livermore Subaru for some clicking noise coming from the rear (could be axles? CV joint?). They took a look at them, verified that there was a noise, and blamed it to "brake pad play" which I immediately called BS to since it happens during take-off and unloading (let-off on the gas) but never during braking. He insisted it was normal due to it being a "toyota drive train". Suffice to say, I've been really disappointed with warranty work since this was my first new car.

On the up side, I've been thinking of moving up to a WRX since its been getting harder and harder to load my daughter in the back seat, so I took a test drive with a sales guy, who turned out to be @Eski lol Cool guy, Ben, you'll be hearing from me when my back taps out! Took it to a back road since the freeway was backed up, and I was reunited with my old friend "boost", unfortunately he brought his friend "understeer" with him. I took the same road with the BRZ after and it was night and day. I'm definitely torn now, fun vs utility dilemma...

I actually may consider that, specially since its a good possibility that I'll be trading it in and will have to part out.

In an ideal world, I would (I have this fantasy of getting matching license plates that say "tarmac" and "gravel" lol). In reality, there is a very slim chance. I'm currently exploring other employment opportunities, so it depends highly on that

Man, that's the dream... being able to walk outside and the toughest choice of the day is, turbo or naturally aspirated? Hope you get to accomplish that, if not, it makes sense why you'd want to go with a WRX full time.

On an unrelated note, speaking of license plates, the other day I saw a guy with "JALOPNK". Awesome.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw an STI with a plate that said "VRMPSHH"
