My experience is that the FRS build, all the performance parts are just as expensive as any other cars ( porsche, lotus.... ). A good set of suspension, brake, safety equipments, all that cost just the same. Actually may cost even more to get the same power as porsche.

BUT

The maintenance and part replacement are a lot cheaper. And there are tons of wrecked car to buy for next to nothing in case of a big crash.

Problem with porsche / lotus is that some specific problem can be very costly. Engine on earlier porsche (pre-2009) can cost you $20k out of nowhere, for the lotus, an unfortunate accident can crack the glued together chassis and the car is totaled, and good luck finding a used chassis.

I am a big fan of porsche, own one, and lotus is also a car I'd love to track, but the choice to go with the FRS/BRZ is really on long term ownership.
