I have to agree, the miata is a fun car, my boss let me drive one before he sold it for a boxter. its light decent steering feel handles very well, only problem was that i was too big

roof doesn't have to be heavy unless you try to make it structural (I'm assuming you are talking about the removable portion). I had a GEN3 Camaro with a custom targa top in it. the roof panel was convertible top material with a stretcher on back front. It fit had convertible male fittings on it that went into female posts on the front back. It never leaked in about 100K miles unless you careless and let something get underneath it when installing. There was also a alternative fiberglass piece you could have purchased but it wouldn't fit in the back of the car. Even it weighed less than 20 lbs. The canvas one rolled up and fit easily in the back or behind the front seats.

The Camaro was built for T-tops so there was already some strengthening in the frame. Cutting the T-bar did cause it to flex some, but I never had an issue. As some others suggested, it did bend when hit from the back though. It was rear-ended by a pickup and pushed into a dump truck at about 20 miles an hour. it bent up exactly where you would expect it to.

Fortunately no one was in it at the time (it and the dump truck were both parked).

So the moral of the story is that if you own a Camaro be careful because you may get rear ended in the dumper?

I'm probably tired, but my thoughts went waaaayyyy to left field after reading that.

Maybe I'm just weird.

It seems like that our car structure will bend when getting hit @10mph+. The hood and bumper have a very easy give. You can apply a little force to the hood and it will bend it for a bit. I would always worry that the paint will cracked each time I apply force when waxing /:. Any car can be made into a targa with a high risk factor. Just 2 days ago I seen a custom camry, it had 22s and it was transform into a leather top convertible. Oh forgot to mention that it got a ton of neon light. I thought I was at a club for a min until I realize that'd I was at walmart.

Just wait for the new FR-S convertible, I heard it can rock your nonexistent socks. Oh it'll have 3 turbos. You heard right, not 1, not 2 but 3 turbo making a total of 300 horsepower. 100 hp per turbo. Can't wait !!!!!!!!
