Sounds good @DAEMANO. I'm putting my bets on a manufacturing fluke, I haven't heard of this from anyone else. Glad it's an easy fix.

I'm glad you found it @Kostamojen! I have a full aero install on a local's car at my house happening tomorrow, I'll post some photos from that as well .

Today started out nicely with printing off some informative packets for Fred, a local FR-S owner, to read over while I installed his complete aero kit. He opted to install everything we have to offer.

After sweating in the garage for a good 4-5 hours in 105+ degree Arizona heat, we finished installing all four kits (front splitter, race upgrade for splitter, rear diffuser, and diff/rear suspension covers). His 2015 FR-S is completely stock, including the exhaust. The diffuser once again clears the OEM mid-pipe. While it is tight, it clears and does not rattle .
.

The best part? His astonishment after his drive home. Left side is his drive to my house, resetting his average before heading over just for this cause. Right side is his drive back home, the exact same route with similar traffic at the exact same MPH via cruise control. It surprised me even since he is still on the stock exhaust. His car is an automatic, not sure if that makes a difference.

Hope everyone else had a productive weekend. I thoroughly enjoy working with physical parts from time to time as I'm typically on a computer. I feel productive... extremely sweaty, but productive.

Guys are there instructions? I've only got the suspension covers but want to mount the hardware while I wait.

Looks like the link on FT86 SpeedFactory may be down since the upgrade. But here it is on the Velox website .

thanks. Can the suspension covers support themselves without a diffuser installed?

No, they would need some style of mounting to be devised on the rear most points. I would recommend to the sway bar mounts potentially?

I can answer this because I actually installed one first hand! Yes it will with slight trimming/bending to the front turned up lip of the diffuser. His evo3 had been banged by a boulder (you have to live in Phoenix to believe that =P) which pushed it up slightly but I don't think it moved too much.

I have made a slight modification to the rear diffuser already to remedy this but it won't be in effect until the next production run.

So, your current options are either to wait till the revision happens (unknown at this time) or grab a pair of sheet metal shears/pliers and make do. It truly was minimal and Aaron (the local FR-S owner pictured below) wasn't unhappy with the outcome.

Just finished my install of the diffuser and suspension covers. Takes longer than people say, and yes the e-brake piece is an absolute *&^*&. But... If you're installing with JDM underbody panels, it is a very easy mod to the panels. There is a hole which ALMOST lines up with the e-brake bolt replacement, make sure that you pop the closest panel rivet off to allow more wiggle room and enlargen the hole in the underbody panel close to the e-brake bolt. This will make life easier. The piece that you need to trim on the edge of the underbody panel is really minimal - don't cut off too much.

With a fully stock exhaust, I also had to snip off about an inch worth of metal which was touching the exhaust. Seems a pity to be so close, I'd be annoyed if I didn't have access to the right tools. It was very easy to remedy with tin snips.

Thanks for all your information! Have any pictures to share?

What I have done on the two OEM exhaust installs is shove my fingers between the exhaust and the diffuser, then tighten the sway bar mount 12mm bolts. I then level the diffuser with the shims which grants me an 1/8" of clearance each time. This may help anyone in the future.

However, this will be remedied by the next production run as I have already revised the front slots to give another 1/4" of downward clearance! We're also happy to say that the alternate design is officially in production! ETA, mid September.

Hell yes! This was probably already asked, but are you doing any CFD analysis on the alternate design?

In the works. Paul has been busy with other projects and I unfortunately do not possess the skillz to pay the billz with CFD. Someday when time grows on trees I hope to be able to run simple simulations like these.

We do not anticipate a large change, it will likely be very minute.

As promised, we finalized testing on the alternative diffuser design. We opted to only look into the numerical data as it saves us quite a bit of time during post processing. Drag increased a mere 0.5%, which isn't large enough to discern from the more aggressive design. The downforce difference was within error of no difference.
