Admittedly I am a little surprised no one has mentioned Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Mad Max should definitely count. Amazing movie, car genre or not. Shiny and chrome.

Not really a "car movie" but some great car chase scenes.

THis, magic mike and Le Mans

Furious 7, yes it's so ridiculous with cars flying between buildings and what not, but sometimes we need a mind numbing action movie to entertain us for 2 hours at a time. And then a take us on a feel trip at the end.

When I research "magic mike" all I get is a comedy drama about a male stripper. What movie are we talking about here?

RUSH is the second best racing movie ever made - Grand Prix is the best with better cinematography and feel of speed from the cars. In RUSH the cars are being driven too slowly and looking slow on film was it's biggest downfall....you don't drive the cars at 80-90% and call it racing footage. You look at actual racing footage from the season and it BLOWS away what is presented in the movie. It's a very interesting character study and excels at the driver mentality aspect compared to Grand Prix...but the actual showing the racing component of the movie is a let down compared to Grand Prix...

Grand Prix was filmed at actual 1966 Grand Prix events, along with actual F1 drivers being in the film (Phill Hill, Graham Hill, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, and Bruce McLaren being the most notable ones). F3 cars equipped with cameras were used for filming the on car shots and were driven by F1 drivers and James Garner (who was a grassroots racer and could have been a competitive F1 driver if he didn't want to concentrate actor). And then you have the chase camera car being a GT40 race car driven by Dan Gurney... doesn't get better than that!

Grand Prix is one of those movies that was a miracle to be made at the exact perfect time - it just had the technical ability to be able to pull off what was needed, the shifting politics and commercialization of F1 afterwards would never allow for something like it to be made again.

F1 and Senna tie for the best documentaries made though...

As @Vracer111 mentions, its hard to beat Grand Prix although I like Le Mans as much if not more for pure racing footage. My favorite shot of Steve McQueen when filming...
