We understand that there are different viewpoints regarding lighting upgrades and questions are often raised by a product is more expensive than the other. There are many reasons for a more expensive product, most notably the following:
  • Overall product quality
  • Fit and finish
  • Durability in all weather conditions (particularly years of service for automotive parts)

There are a number of aftermarket options/models for clear side markers, many of which are look-a-like (replica). While these may seem attractive and cost effective, it does present a number of risks and product-associated problems:
  • Condensation - rain, water, dirt, moisture gets into the housing due to poor seals (potentially causing a short circuit and result in a blown fuse)
  • Fitment of the housing may be hit-and-miss depending on the batch quality (aftermarket parts supplier)
  • Materials used may break easily (build quality may vary)
  • Plastic may exhibit early signs of "yellowing/cloudy" caused by oxidation and exposure to UV rays and different weather conditions

These are just some things to considering when shopping for clear side markers. A number of our customers have initially purchased aftermarket side markers and were quite dissatisfied about them for a number of reasons (leaking, condensation, broken attachment, cracked assembly, etc.).

Again, everyone is different so there is no right or wrong answer. As car enthusiasts ourselves, we recommend paying a bit more and invest in the OEM Japan clear side markers for the long run (hassle-free). Just my 2 cents!
Thank you. I appreciate all the help and clarification. I too would like to pay for quality and trusted parts, but as always look to save a couple bucks here and there.
Also where can i buy HID lights like your photo for the reverse lights and license plate bulbs?

Someone from the Philippines said a pair of OE side markers cost about $40 USD. So I assume that's probably the true cost in countries where they are readily available from a Subaru dealer. Worth a shot if you ever travel to an English-speaking country that has the clear side markers as standard equipment e.g. UK, Australia, New Zealand, just go into a Subaru or Toyota dealer and try to order a pair.

It shouldn't matter whether you get the Subaru or Toyota version, right? They are identical, right?
