Will this trunk mounted bike rack from Target work?
Hi guys,
Thinking about buying this for my car as a simple solution for mounting and unmounting my bike (and the mount itself) from the car. Do you think this would work for our cars (safely)? It says the brand of part of the Thule group. link for Target item

Can we not put our back seats down and lay the bike on its side to fit it in? I don't own a bike so I wouldn't know, just a thought?

It will scratch, scuff and mar your paint. If you're insistent on a trunk-mounted rack, go with a great brand like Thule or Saris.
My big suggestion though is to head over to a proper bike shop and they'll have fit charts and can describe the pros/cons of different rack types and brands, and they'll show you how to safely attach it to your car to minimize damage and reduce the risk of your bike touching the car. |

Yeah, you can. I fit a 26" tire MB in mine before. But it's risky as it's a bit of a tight fit and you may catch a pedal on something.

I bought that rack a few years ago with intention on using it on a rental that we were taking across the country. I even put extra padding(some duct tape) on the things that clip into the trunk and it still messed the paint up pretty bad. No way I'm attaching it to the FR-S. If it was my personal car and you buy that rack, I would either go crazy with extra padding or get something like this below(not mine) made up that attaches to the tow hook thingies. That Target one holds the bikes uncomfortably close to the car and you have to be very careful putting the bikes on and off. I also did minor damage to the rental because of that also.

I can fit my hardtail 29er in the car, but I have to feed one wheel in by removing the passenger seat head restraint temporarily.

I would stay away from any trunk mounted racks. I think haul makes a hitch for the 86. That's a better bet. Or check out sea suckers

Those Seasucker mounts are really neat. Suction cups are expensive these days though, aren't they?
![]() When a knockoff comes out for a more reasonable 1/3 to 1/2 the price I am all over that. I guess they are priced high accordingly as nobody would take them seriously that is a serious biker if they sold for a more understandable $50-$75 and were sold at Walmart. This goes for pretty much anything high end that has to do with bikes. Sometimes the sticker on the down tube makes a bike worth double what it should be. Seems they are following the bicycle industry standard.Of course, if sold at Walmart, they would be selling probably like 10X the amount they currently are right now. I know I would have already bought two sets if the were half the price they are currently at. This was a quick search on Google: 22 lb hold: http://www.realrecreationusa.com/p/S...-42633246.html 87 lb hold: https://www.granitecitytool.com/stor...BUqBoCrx3w_wcB If somebody was industrious enough, they could probably recreate the Seasucker things, or close to it, for a fraction of the price with similar suction cups.
