Official FT86Club decal ideas?

Good point. It'd probably be fine if it wasn't die cut if we could be sure that the transparent vinyl would stay transparent.

My dad knows a guy that runs a vinyl wrap business out of his house out in Granbury TX, he has the hardware and everything. I think he's a member of the Texas Motorsport Ranch or something -- he's a car guy anyways. My dad thinks that he could do either of the above, die cut or just a print on transparent vinyl where the vinyl wouldn't begin to fade or discolor over time. I'll be going out there over the weekend, so if you guys haven't gotten something sorted by then I could go meet with him and see what I can figure out.

I can make modification to the design (making the letters larger/thicker), any other request before I start making changes?

Personally, I want the piston portion of the logo, with the japanese 8-6, for the back window... Maybe 6-8 inches in length.

This new one looks great as is, but since you asked, here are my suggestions:

I prefer a cleaner design, and I don't think it needs to say ft86club in two placed (less is more on a decal).

1. Eliminate the URL (maybe change the main line to read FT86Club.com or leave it as FT86Club).
2. Bold GT86/FR-S/BRZ (or increase it's size just a tad), move it down, and arch it (just like the URL text was):

   []=O=[]

   FT86Club

GT86/FR-S/BRZ

Alternatively, if the spacing looks funny, you could swap places between the boxer graphic and the GT86/FR-S/BRZ text (again, where GT86/FR-S/BRZ is smaller than FT86Club.com and is arched):

GT86/FR-S/BRZ

   FT86Club

   []=O=[]

And a another idea would be:

FT86Club.com

   []=O=[]

GT86/FR-S/BRZ

Where FT86Club is smaller than it is on your current design and is arched following the upper border (just like GT86/FR-S/BRZ arches following the lower border) and the boxer graphic is larger (so the emphasis on the decal would be the boxer graphic).


P.S. I almost ordered the cafepress decal from your other thread, but decided to hold off because it was a little too faint. Even your current design looks great, so thanks for asking for suggestions and for making these.

The thinking behind the placement and sizing of the elements on the current design are:

I want the audience to see the name of the club first (FT86 Club) then the piston graphic second. The piston graphic servers as the logo to tie together the different variations of this car. Then since it's an online club I want the audience to see the URL so they could find out more/join. Lastly what all the different variations of the cars are.

I do like your idea of combining the URL as the name of the club however, designing a logo type with “.com” can be a problem when web address naming convention changes in the future.

I remember seeing some comment about having "Toyota 86" alongside "GT86/FR-S/BRZ" but was thinking it's probably not a good idea to use the "Toyota" name for copyright purpose.

Eh, I don't think having the actual URL is super important. I feel like if someone is genuinely curious and wants to find out more they'll just google 'ft86 club', for which this site is always going to rank extremely strongly. And if something terrible ever did happen to the domain, as long as they put up the ft86club site elsewhere google would rank that domain instead. Besides, do we really want members that aren't savvy enough to just google something?

I could probably get a quote from one of my vendors here at work. We have a vendor that makes all our sticker labels and anything label related. I sure decals fall in that caterogy.

I will need the following info:
- color pdf file of the artwork with the necessary measurements
- where will the decal be placed, on what kind of surface
- what kind of material needed to print the artwork
- and most of all, estimated volume use. The higher the quantity the lower the price per decal.
