Except that it has not been "damaged by the sun".

Oh well.
Yep, looks exactly like mine. haha
Apparently that 303 or similar stuff makes it look new again and also protects it from drying out/shrinking.

You've been told by several long-term (long as can be at this point, anyway) owners and at least one guy who does this sort of stuff for a living that your car (so far) is totally normal. You have the issue, not me.

Yes, I was told this is normal. And I was given advice about it.
Then, I politely said thank you and that's pretty much an ideal conversation right there.

However, you felt the need to point out how ridiculous I was being for asking a simple question. Not once but twice. Adding nothing whatsoever.

Anything else?

I like this product. I use it about once or twice a year on most of the interior rubber and plastic bits. I like that is doesn't leave a greasy or shiny surface. It seems to restore rather than just coat.

BTW, I think rather than discoloration, a true indicator of the rubber going bad is if it's dry, brittle and/or cracking.

Cool. Thanks. :> I'll probably buy one of these and report back for anyone interested in the future looking for info on this type of stuff.

Is there anything I can put on it to protect it from the sun?

Here's a picture. The itches are at the top and the bottom if you zoom in.

I did wash my car once but all I used on that area was Meguiars car soap.
303 Aerospace protectant. Get it on Amazon or at a marine store.

Your other option is to take it in for warranty service due to poor quality parts and/or poor craftsmanship. If you choose this route, I suggest making a standing weekly appointment with your dealer because you will certainly be back there every week.

I want to get a FR-S in the future, but how/why is it that they have not come out with a replacement part that fixes this issue that occurs with virtually every car?

Because it probably requires some sort of re-design, and because its not anything "bad" per se, just a minor annoyance, they probably see no need to fix the issue and spend the money.

From my experience, with Toyota at least, if enough people complain about it (which I think have) they should issue a TSB with a fix, usually with new parts. For example with my Corolla for the longest time there was a ticking/clicking sound coming from my back glass. It wasn't loud, but loud enough to annoy people and they fixed it:
