Yikes. No way. That's in the same range as a first year RX-8 or possibly a post '00 BMW 3 series.

I'm looking for something that is '96+ (so can scangaugeII) and closer to the KBB of around $2k.

:C That's a good deal.

I gave up looking everyday. The $2k auto I saw sold already and the only ones I've seen were 300-500 miles away with overheated engines or in a wreck that totaled the car. If I could borrow a trailer it wouldn't be a bad deal to get a good body and mate it with a good engine.

And I found pictures of the 318ti BMW engine bay which shows how BMW fit the I4 into the engine bay.

I thought I'd revive this thread, I'm currently in the process of stocking up on parts for an M3 conversion fro a 318ti with an s52 that I plan on tweaking to 300hp, it's a heckuva process ( over 300 hours of work + close to 5000$ in parts and reinforcement. I have a friend who runs one locally, the car has been litened up to around 2500lbs and is a dream to drive. The car we are converting is in Active Trim with sunroof etc ... cool project once we get the ball rolling

Good luck!

I used to own a pretty mint 318ti with M-package. It was a nice car.
Still a popular car in the Autocross and BMW track-day community that is dominated with E30 here. Local track is small so lighter smaller cars are preferred.
Last autocross I was on there were two E36 compacts.. One with 328I engine and one with M3 engine. Heavily modified drivetrain on both. The one with M3 engine was just sweet!
Gotta love them..
