New guy from Aus

Hey Folks - my name's Drew, and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I'm very excited to announce that I'm the proud owner of a brand new 86. I had been planning to buy one for a couple of years and ownership has finally become a reality! Truly awesome car - driving it reminds me of my old SW20 MR2 - but even better! I loved that car and driving this one feels like I've found my long lost friend!!

So the car itself is a Crystal Pearl, manual, MY15 86 GTS. Only options were tint/paint protection/interior protection package, and mudflaps (colour coded). After market shopping starts....... NOW!!

Wait, and be patient. Unless there's something that is screaming at you to be changed, drive the car like it is for a few months before modifying it. The car will tell you what it needs to be right for you and your driving style, but you have to give it a chance first to make sure you're not changing it for the worse just because you and it haven't found the right fit yet. A lot of people dive right into modification and never truly experience all this car has to offer.

Welcome aboard, your 86 looks great.

I have a couple of questions:
Where'd you get color coded mud guards!??! They look OEM but I've only seen them in black.
Please take a pic of the headlight washers in action (that's what those squares under the headlights are, right?) I've always wondered about those things.
Which paint protection did you opt for? (The paint protection film or the sealer)
What's the interior protection package? The dealer empties a can of Scotchguard on the seats and carpets?
Best of luck with your new 86!

There's definitely no big plans on the horizon just yet - even I felt I needed to know her first. I bought the car new in April, but I use it more as a toy so have only done around 1600kms so far - and loved every one! And my after market mods have consisted of buying an 86 hat! More a mod for me rather than the car. I think I will eventually upgrade the wheels to 18's with wider tyres but the factory ones are fine for now plus I quite like that factory look with the pearl paint. There's nothing that really stands out that I could say that I don't like - I think it's a really good looking car and I upgraded from a Ford Falcon so it even feels plenty fast to me!

Haha, definitely not! My avatar is actually the remote controlled car I club race. Bought the shell second hand for $40 with all the working lights etc. I have a white shell for it too, but I want to use it in a photo shoot before it starts getting marked. Photo shoot will be a 'boys with toys' shoot, just after one great photo consisting of: me + my 86, my 5 year old with the white 1:10 86 r/c car and my 3 year old holding a 1:43 white 86.

Hi - Toyota got them done for me before delivery. They only offer black but my salesman had arranged colour coding previously through a company here called 'The Touch Up Guys' who are a mobile bumper dent/scratch repairer. So they colored the backs as you'd see on some models from factory. In fact the dealer liked them on the car so much that it's started a bit of a trend! Originally he cringed when I said to add mudflaps, but I knew they'd look good colour coded.

The protection pack I went for was after market but they did it before delivery. It was cheaper than Toyota's version and offered more. Tinted windows (darkest legal), paint protection is a nano-coat system (self cleaning and self repair - one of my kids accidentally scratched the spoiler the day after I got it but after 30 mins in the sun it's gone - deep scratches would be a different story), leather and vinyl conditioner - keeps the surfaces soft and stain free - plus as it's only semi-shine the dash doesn't give glare on the windscreen when the sun is out unlike using Armor All or similar. Also means I don't have to condition the leather while trying to avoid the alcantara part of the seats! And finally it has a deep scotch guard for all fabrics, seats/carpet/mats/seat belts.

I'll get a pic of the washers in action for you too - watch this space!
