Three of my close relatives were in this battle: two in the Cornfield fight (61st Georgia Infantry) and one at the Burnside Bridge (50th Georgia Infantry). It didn't go well for the ones in the Cornfield -- my gg grandfather was wounded, his brother in law was killed and his brother was severely wounded and died about a week later. The Burnside Bridge guy (also a gg grandfather) did better: he and his 200 sharp shootin' colleagues held off General Burnside and 10,000 Union troops for nearly 6 hours at the Burnside Bridge, mainly because Burnside was too stupid to try to find another way across Antietam Creek other than the bridge. Dumbass.
