Number of reasons, a couple of which are my fault. Completely let the oil level run low, pretty sure I torched some of the seals, so I'm burning more oil than I should. But outside of that the fluid and stuff that Gary (from Sprintex) has recommended from Jon Bond, I've talked to him a number of times and alot of upgrades he throws in with the rebuild reduce or even eliminate oil consumption. Thats been my one complaint with this kit all along. Otherwise I've been completely satisfied with it.

If everyone waits until I get mine back and installed (by @ptuning) I can post a review on performance (including dyno) and oil consumption

So Jon Bond says 750-850. Supposed to be less than two weeks. I'll post back here with details when I know more. I'm also having a dyno done immediately after. I kept the original dynos so I'll have a good baseline, in the event there are any performance differences before/after. Outside of seals being replaced with high temp seals, I'm doing ceramic coated rotors as well as a pressure relief.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Definitely interested in hearing your results. Was that 750-850 including the ceramic coating?

Yes it was including ceramic coating. I'll probably do a vendor review of Jon Bond when I get it back and put the entire story in there.

We do that on pretty limited terms. We've made a whole lot of these units, so it's cheaper to replace them than rebuild them. Like any compressor, if you spin it within an inch of its life, it won't last as long as lower RPM usage. The same goes for turbos, roots, centry's and twinscrews---RPM and heat are your two main enemies.

We can refurbish a kit with sonic cleaning the castings and using new bearings and such. Anything behind the gears and in the rotor pack is a very meticulous affair. Forward of the rotor pack is what we handle here in the US because of speed of the work. Jon Bond is qualified to do that kind of work behind the gears and I highly recommend him. He's easier to access in the US and has quicker turnaround being on the same continent. He rebuilds thousands of superchargers a year.

Our USA branch is a warehouse, not a machine shop or speed shop.

PSA: check your idler pulley!

In the last week or so my car developed a squeak on start-up, so I picked up a new idler and belt just in case. I pulled the belt and spun all the pulleys and they all felt smooth and made no noise. But when I pulled the plastic idler, I found this:



Now, the car is in the midst of some work, so I wasn't able to verify that the squeak is gone. But regardless if it is, this pulley needed to be replaced. So I figured I should show the other owners of this kit that may have the same pulley, in case there was a bad batch of bearings.

FYI, I replaced it with a Gates 38018 pulley.

I picked it up at O'Reilly's since they carry Gates products and had it in stock. I'm more of an Advance Auto guy, but Gates has a better reputation than Dayco. It retails for $15.99.


Got the car mobile today, and no squeak. So the pulley does appear to have been the culprit.
