A shot in the dark, but I can use your help

Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing well today. I plan on proposing to my girlfriend of three years on August 15th, 2015 in Newport, RI area. And I have a challenge that I hope maybe someone can assist me with in any way.

Towards the end of my proposal I am planning on taking a ride in an old car towards the location of where I am officially going to ask her. It is probably only going to be a 20-30 minute ride with her and its meant to symbolize the moments when we grow old together. It would be awesome if the car is a bit bruised, dented and/rusted as it'll just enhance the meaning that I am trying to convey to her when I propose. Or it can be an old but fully restored car. Preferably an American Branded car (but i'm open to anything at this point.)

My challenge is finding a car/truck that I can use when I am there on that day. I have called all the local limo companies who have antique cars and they are charging me upwards of $600-900 for that 30 minute ride. I respect their quote but it's just unnecessary to pay that much unless it was my wedding day. If anyone here somehow or someway can help me out to make this day happen, it would be awesome. I do not mind paying a fee for the help.

I am completely fine if the owner wants to drive us there as I can pretend to use uber to take us to where I wanted to go and play it off like that with my girlfriend.

Thanks for reading this and I appreciate all the help.

Good luck man.

A buddy of mine did something similar, sleigh ride in winter, a decorated Christmas tree out in the middle of nowhere and a ring inside a small box which was hanging with the other ornaments. SO sappy. If he had told me beforehand, I'd have tried my best to talk him out of it. But it actually went over really beautifully, and she loved it, and that memory is still a high point for them ten years later. It all depends on the people involved and their relationship with each other.

Good luck! Try and find an old Studebaker or Packard if you can.

I say you use some chloroform and drag her to bed.

When she wakes up, the ring will be on her finger.

Define old? I have a rusty 87' 300ZX that i could let you borrow. I live long island and this car is well...interesting to say the least. It clunks on every shift (unless your gentle), the exhaust smells (Woo, catless!) and makes some noise, the seats are turning into a sine wave and there are around fifty shades of black around the car. No A/C.

Haha, but i don't think anyone has a Z31 in mind when they think classic.

Uber/Lyft perhaps?

Or put an ad on Craigslist under the "Gigs" section for anyone with a piece of shit car. They'll probably GLADLY do it for <$50. Alternatively you can put it on Reddit in the r/NewYork subreddit and someone will probably do it for free just to get the Karma.

I didn't think about craigslist like that so I'll definitely will look into this. Thanks!

What you describe is perfect for what I am looking to use. It's not an american classic but I am not trying to be picky. Unfortunately I will be driving with her to Rhode Island in my BRZ. I just need to find someone there that can help me out during the proposal time. I really appreciate your thoughts on letting me borrow it.
