Engine idle chirping (cricket) noise poll.
Quote:
Yes, I don't have crickets & I know wut gas stations give me them in Vegas. U can only try different ones throughout different area of the city, usually the busier the gas station the better.. Shell & arco is big no no to me in Vegas, only some chevron is good. & one of the smith gas.... But I quit going there cuz gas quality varies too much at smith. (My cold start comes with really loud pop with smith gas at times.) |

38k miles, no chirps on E10 California 91 of various brands (mostly arco due to price and convenience).
In traffic this morning was next to a silver FR-S and I could hear his chirping with my windows down and light music, I had almost forgotten what they sounded like as it's been nearly 2 years and 30k miles since I've heard them get angry. I'm of the opinion it goes away as the fuel pump wears in, no need for any additives or blood sacrifices. Edit: I wish I could change my vote in the poll... |

Ok guys without turning this into "my gas is better than yours" thread, which do you prefer / recommend? I'm going to look into finding a 5 gal drum of VP high octane stuff and see if there's a difference for shits and giggles.

Confirmed by yourself? Where do you live? How many fill-ups have you have with "Nitro?" There are variables here that may affect each car differently.

The crickets seem to come and go as they please. E85 makes them go away.

No more chirping at 15k
Voted Yes because it was making the sound initially. According to dealer my car has second gen fuel pump which was supposed to resolve problem. I currently have about 15k driven. Now the chirping is usually gone. At one point it was very noticeable and even embarrassing. But it has subsided now. 2014 FRS

Bought my 14 BRZ about 2 months ago with 8500 miles and started noticing the chirping about 3 weeks ago. It might have been there before but now that I know its there it drives me crazy. Took it into the dealer yesterday and parts are on order for HPFP replacement next week. Looking at the TSB, my car missed out on the revised pump by about 1500 units by VIN. I know a lot of people haven't had much luck with replacements, but I'm hoping a new pump and running a small amount of TC-W3 oil in the gas will keep the crickets at bay

I would, but I don't see the need to pay an extra $1-2 per tank for something that has been fading over time and doesn't affect the car's performance.

I'm approaching 13k and I haven't heard the crickets for the entire year to this point. I just noticed a few weeks ago and I was like huh, no crickets. Although my car didn't make the noise that often either.
