Micro dots embedded in all of my glass.
I've had the car for a week now and have been doing hours and hours of homework on detailing but I'm already off to a terrible start. My first wash was Sunday and yesterday morning I had to remove a ton of bugs from the bumper and windshield. I used Meguiar's perfect clarity glass cleaner, spraying and spreading with one set of microfiber towels and drying with another. The results seemed to be great at first, however today I noticed these little dots all across my glass:
You can get a better idea of the dots near the bottom of this image, to the left of the diagonal light reflection: ![]() ![]() ![]() I've mostly been watching AMMO NYC and chemical guys on youtube for my research. In a glass cleaning and polishing video I just watched, Larry from AMMO advised to use only once washed microfiber towels to avoid embedding fibers into the glass. This is what I'm thinking is the cause of these spots. Also it was advised to use glass-purpose microfiber towels and not regular pile microfibers which I did also. I tried removing the spots with just a clean microfiber but to no avail. I don't want to use more cleaner in case it somehow had an effect, and I don't want to try water to avoid leaving water spots and streaks. I'm thinking my only solution to remove the dots now is to try polishing. However, I read where someone did their first glass polish and left it with a ton of swirl marks somehow. Help! Which method should I try first? Also I have a miniscule chip in the glass and two tiny micro fractures around it. Can this be polished out? And this is the best image I could get, it isnt the flash, yet the light refracting out of the "crater" of the chip if you will.

I'd try glass clay bar first. Or a regular clay bar if you don't have one for glass. Griot's Garage sells 2 glass polishes. It's hard to damage glass........think about when you were in science class........what did they store acid in? Glass. Microfiber towels will leave little micro fuzzies sometimes, but they do make microfiber towels especially for glass and are more like a satin than fuzzy.

In a small are wet down glass with car wash soap and water mixture in a bottle. Saturate the area and glide a box cutter blade over the area. Be gentle and float over the area and press slightly firmer. Wipe with a a MF cloth and see how it looks. Could just be road paint spray. Was any on the paint?

You need to Clay and polish the Glass! I would follow up with a Wax or Sealant.
PM if you need more help. Erick

Try using ceriglass. It can be applied by hand or using a buffer.

Don't use glass cleaner, as it is not a lubricant for clay. Use the same lubricant that you use for clay on your paint. It won't hurt the glass, and you can clean it off with glass cleaner or paint prep after claying.

People use hairspray and related products inside car that gets on windows and when the sun cooks the chemicals, it somehow gets absorbed into glass and you get those dots. It doesn't come off... unless you swap the glass.
hope its not something like that!

Just take some clay bar to it, any clay bar will do, "glass clay" is just marketing bs. You can go to just about any big retailer and get a meguires clay kit, comes with two bars of clay and some quick detailer.

here are the results after one round of clay baring. you can see the dots being smeared away(left side clayed).
http://imgur.com/BqVTHXk I would say the clay got rid of about 90% of the dots but I'll probably have to take a shot at polishing the rest. |

Polishing glass is no joke. Very messy, easy to screw up, and can only be done with a machine polisher. Try everything else possible before going that route.

Looks like the tiny dots of sap that's been falling on my glass/paint during the summer. You must park under trees a lot. Just takes a little more pressure to come off, just use an ordinary glass wipe.
