Have you done anything with the windows as far as removing the motors? What about the power door locks?

Nah. The reason I haven't is because I hope to make carbon doors with fixed lexan windows one day, so no need to deal with all that for now. I did remove the "door cards" from the interior, but that's easily undone.

Can I ask you about the Lotus steering wheel?
How did you get this to fit? Did you install an additional hub in-between? And did you get it to be any closer to your chest by doing so?
(I installed a deep dish aftermarket steering wheel for this reason, but I've meanwhile noticed that I could get in trouble if stopped by the police. A steering wheel without an airbag is actually not illegal where I live, but one needs a confirmation from the manufacturer (Subaru/Toyota), that it is safe to drive around without an airbag.)

Second question: I noticed that you got the side view mirrors removed and saved about 2 lbs. Did your stock side view mirrors also have power-folding motors installed?

Yeah, I had to have a custom adapter fabricated to go in between the wheel and the universal adapter.

And I have no idea about the mirrors. Whatever normal or common is, I'm sure that's what I had.

USDM cars don't have the power folding mirrors, not even as an option. So the EDM and JDM cars should lose more weight here.

Thanks Anthony.
Is this airbag functional? Does it have the same resistance as the OEM one?
Also, do you happen to have a picture of that adapter? Is it basically a relatively simple thing with 6 screw-holes on both sides?

No, I gutted the airbag out of the Lotus wheel. It was over half the weight.

The adapter I had made is a simple ring cut out of a block of aluminum. It has threaded holes on one side that fit the universal adapter, and 4 holes on the other side that fit the Lotus wheel.

You should do a 0-60 and quarter mile race against stock and other modded 86s to see the gains

Well, I don't want to launch my car from a dig, and also I have 0 drag racing experience. Most scientific way would be to have one driver drive both cars, be it me or anyone else. I would like to know too, but I'm not that worried about it.

Because I need it.

Because I need it.

Perhaps you could post your laptimes around local track in your car vs a slightly modded mostly stock frs/brz

I dont want to start a huge debate or any drama but my understanding was that wings arent doing a whole lot below speeds of like 100mph ... most of the tracks I go to with this car I struggle to hit 90 but I go to some really small twisty tracks MSRH and Gransport speedway in Houston... please dont flame me I just want to see you hit your goal of lowest weight 86 out there.

Also a possible suggest acid dipping the body work or sanding down the body work ?

I am currently gutting my 2005 mini cooper R53 S for dedicated track usage and I find myself rereading your build thread for ideas. ... once the BRZ is off warranty I will be doing some similar modding.

anyways dude huge respect for your build and your low weight ethics. I am all about that qoute from Colin. If you are ever down in Houston Texas give me a shout.

It looks like the tracks in California are very dusty. It might change the aero need.
