White Toyota 86/BRZ to cost more?

Hey guys, the White on offer by Subaru and Toyota on the BRZ/86 is a pearlesant paint.

Generally speaking, Metalic paints cost about $300 - $500 extra from some brands and then Pearlesant will cost about $800 - $1000 more.

If Toyota and Subaru decide to charge extra for White, will you change your order?

Take a quick look here:

http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyo...e+Cars&sr=Mall

Scroll down to the bottom and you can click on the colours and you will see that White is Pearlescent.

If you go here you will see that 'White Out' on the Scion FR-S see's an additional charge too:

"Pearl White" is the name of the colour. Like "Firestorm Red". Doesn't mean the red paint will actually contain fire! =P
Pretty sure its just the same old metallic paint like all the rest.

However in the UK and USA you pay more for it.

On the UK Website it is clearly listed as being a pearlesent paint too.

In Japan Toyota charges 30,000 yen extra for white. Not sure about Subaru.

However all the colours are either metallic or pearl so they might just charge extra on white only but I doubt it.

Mazda doesn't charge extra for pearl or metallic.

white or matte black, if its an extra grand for white id highly consider wrapping it instead. but i really like the idea of panda-rizing it

i asked my dealer when ordering, if pearlescent cost extra. He said it doesn't for the 86 as it is part of the total cost. So all paint cost the same.

Edit: i've also ordered white.

My dealer says that it would be an extra cost for the white becasue of it being pearlesent. They said that it has always cost more for that paint. At that point I went for red.

I also figured, why pay more for that color when the value of the car is going to be the same in a couple of years reguardless of the color.

In 2008, Ferrari was charging $25,000.00 to paint a 430 Scuderia in the same red as the Formula 1 car. To have your 458 in that color expect to pay similar. I have a friend that had the diffuser on his 599 painted "body color" at the Ferrari factory. They charged him nearly $20,000.00 for that privilege. Another friend just ordered his MP4-12C in the same silver as the McLaren Formula1 car for, "…an exorbitant fee that I'm embarrassed to share". The car does look good though.

My point is… paint is a critical component. It's hugely expensive and different kinds of paint need different kinds of applications and curing procedures. $220.00 might seem like a lot (or a little) but if you add that up across a production run of 100 or 1,000 or 5,000 cars you can see how that adds up fast and the cost needs to be offset.

I ordered a white BRZ. Was no extra charge. Will be interesting to see that white side-by-side with Scion white.

i was wondering about that, wasnt sure about the production of these vehicles. Are they both manufactured and assembled at the same place?
Just saw an interesting youtube vid about the BRZ, its a month old and most of you have probably already seen it but it was very interesting.
