Hi Andy, have you driven the RGM car? I'd be interested to see what differences you feel, especially wrt their suspension setup.

No, I've never driven it. Would be fun to do that, and it would also be interesting to see what Jacques can do in my car. I don't believe coilovers make a big difference. IMO the stock suspension is superb as it comes.

Power's identical, proved at Zwartkops in March when I tailgated and filmed Rob for a whole session. With Rob driving, I was quite a lot faster (about 4 secs/lap), with Jacques driving, I was 4 secs a lap slower.

Any difference in power, suspension, tyres, etc is not that significant.
The more track time I put in, the more I learn that it's all about driver skill, and the biggest and best upgrade you can do is put in seat time.

When I started tracking, my best time for my 1st day at Midvaal was 1m31, and I thought I was quick and pushing the bubble (which I was). Now I run 1m20 there without stress and the only change to my car has been tyres (about 1.5 secs/lap)

You need to see how fast @JouMaSeHoes is with his NA car and road tyres. He puts down amazing lap times and that's not due to his power, suspension or tyres. It's because he's a superb and brave driver. QED

I can't wait for my next session at Red Star. I'm confident I can do a lot better - it's all about being SMOOTH (and brave). I've compared sector by sector against Jacques and at RSR I lose out the most in T4 which is a fast right sweep on the limit. He takes it foot flat - my goolies aren't big enough to do that and it costs me a few seconds...

Have only heard good things about Red Star (apart from the bikes!), looks like a great circuit, must make a plan.

I agree with you that it's all about driver skill. And I certainly wouldn't be too bothered about not matching Jacques times, he's very very good/mad

Go for it - highly recommended.
Red Star is so much safer than a circuit like Zwartkops - the speeds are much lower, and the run-off areas are massive.
Your worst mistake is likely to only be punished with a cloud of dust and a ragging from your mates.

Here's a perfect opportunity, for charity, organised by @JouMaSeHoes, and there'll be lots of 86s there.

Damp CT Trackday

So I decided to make the best of a damp track day and leave the street tires on, forgetting about track times and just having some good old fun.

Coming from a AWD background, RWD still scares me so I decided it was time to try get over that fear and develop some natural reactions to RWD dynamics.

Needless to say I had an absolute blast!

My first time on Killarney with the 86 was huge fun and bloody hair raising at times on the damp track. What a car this is tho. So controllable, so much fun. I enjoyed every single lap.
Will be looking to get some sideways action too. Those pics just look way too cool

Was in warm KZN this weekend, and I must say its a pleasure driving the 86 at sea level - extremely responsive as a N/A.

I decided to record some footage and drive along the coast.

Note - I did not break any speed limits in this video, it was all under 60km/h

An Audi kept on trying to push me on the beach road between Umhlanga and Ballito ...

So I unleashed the Subaru inside:

Did you know that you can fit 8 wheels into an 86?

Two in the front, four in the back, and two in the trunk, and there's still enough space for tools, spares and a trolley jack!! Ama-Zing
