2016 BRZ Starting Price Lower Than FRS

Hey guys, just wanted to see what y'all opinions are with the pricing of 2016 models. Scion seems to have increased their starting price to $27,490 for the 6spd while the BRZ 6spd will start at $27,395.

http://www.subaru.ca/WebPage.aspx?We...ArticleID=9337

http://driving.ca/scion/fr-s/auto-ne...7490-in-canada

Now I haven't looked into any changes there may be to the FRS/BRZ but BRZ now having the lower starting price caught my eye. What do you guys think? It really isn't much of a difference but something I thought was interesting.

I don't see a backup camera in the BRZ link, so the offset may be the Backup camera the FRS has.

I have found that odd actually. They put the camera in the FRS to address the forthcoming legislative requirements. I have not seen a single thing on the official Subaru documents that mentions the camera though.

I may be mistaken, but I remember hearing the new backup camera law for new cars was an American thing only?

Canada has been discussing the same requirement for a while now. Not really sure where it stands right now but you can bet it isn't far away.

The gap has closed for USA but the FR-S is still marginally cheaper... then you realize Subaru will go below MSRP and Scion has 'Pure Price'.

FR-S $26,075
http://www.scion.com/cars/FR-S2016/

BRZ $25,695 + $795 delivery fee = $26,490
http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/brz/
(doing build your own will input the delivery fee)

Looking at the Canada Build your own BRZ website there is a $1,650 shipping fee and another $115 'other fee', the Scion website rolls taxes and fees in as well so it plops another $5k onto the $27k figure, too lazy to actually break it down.

BRZ may not be cheaper up there, you have to go through the whole process.

.
Hey Strat, you do realize that "Pure Price" does not require the dealers to charge MSRP right? They can charge less or more based on what they want as long as all the advertised prices for each individual car are the same. They can charge $20K for white and $50K for blue on the same lot if they want to.

I think we've had thorough discussions about our differing experiences enough already, but the point is worth making that Pure Price can work in the buyers favor.

Don't care, already own one. And I'll be driving her until she falls apart like Jake & Elwood's car.

I'm surprised anyone still thinks the FR-S is cheaper anyway. Scion won't budge on the price. If you shop around you'll get a BRZ limited for the same price as a base FR-S. I did, and a lot of people I've seen have as well. It may work for some people, but not budging off msrp just ticks me off, it doesn't "make the buying process easier".

How so? I walked in, said what I wanted, let them know I'm a recent graduate and that my father worked for TMMC. That got me 2500 of the sticker price, I put down a deposit and picked the car up 4 days later. How is that difficult?

I would guess getting an employee discount that most people won't have access to would make the price lower.......I'm not saying it's difficult, I'm saying their no haggle policy that they say makes the process easier, is just an excuse to not budge on price for the average consumer.

Look at it this way:
They can either put a lower price on car and say "take it or leave it"
Or
They can artificially inflate the price so you can "talk them down" to what they actually need to charge

In both cases you pay the same you just miss out of thinking you "got a deal".
There is always a bottom dollar that the dealers must get or they lose money and no matter how much you want it cheaper than that they can't charge under the base price long or they go out of business.
People seem to think that the dealers make massive mark up on cars. That is just not reality and if they can go way down from what they are asking then that just means they were asking way to much in the first place.
