16"s are a standard fit on the lower model cars here in Australia (and in some other countries).
My wheel current lineup: Road: Desmond Regamaster Marquis Promada 17x8 +35 Track: RPF1 17x9 +35 Drift: OE 17" I justify having dedicated track wheels by looking at the number of heat cycles and wear rating of my track tyres/tires and the mileage I do on the road - I'd have to buy 1.5-2 sets of additional track tyres per year if I didn't have the ability to change back to road wheels. Personally I don't overly care about the looks, but I don't mind the look of the RPF1s and bang for buck they are great. |

I've been tracking on both TSW Nurburgring (17x8 +45, 18 lbs., matte gunmetal) and Wedssport TC105N (17x8 +42, 15 lbs., titan silver). Both have been fine, no issues. The Wedssports are lighter by 3 lbs./corner, but to be honest, I haven't noticed the difference. Both are reasonably priced flow-form cast wheels IMO.
The one thing I like about the TC105N is that the offset is lower, which gives slightly more in-board clearance. I'm running 235/40/17 tires with -1.5 degrees camber up front, so clearance to the strut helps. Easy answer.
Kosei K4R Kosei K1 TS Enkei RPF1 Benefits to the Koseis are that they are lighter and cheaper (cost, not quality) than RPF1s. Only downside is that they only come in 17x7 and 17x8, so if you want larger than that you'd have to go with RPF1s. These are going to be three of the most cost effective track wheels you can buy. There may be other good deals out there on used wheels too, but I picked up my 17x7 K1 TSs for $450 in great used condition. Getting a set of 17x7 wheels that weigh 14.6lbs each for that price is tough to beat. The K4Rs in the same size are only 14lbs each. Kosei K1s are very popular wheels in SpecE30 racing too, so they're absolutely a track proven wheel.

What about these Rota Titans?
They're at 17 pounds each and $700 for a set of 4. Anyone have bad experiences with them?

I just picked up my used 16" x 7" TE37s today, 11.1 lbs per wheel and look great. Cheaper than the RPF1s I was looking at too...

na, I understand your question here. going from a 17" to a 16" saves a good bit of weight as well as moving the mass closer to the point of rotation while being able to fit on a wider tire so all around win-win for C-Street SCCA racing. Also I don't think they make a 17"x 7". 7" width required for my class.

Eggzactly. We've gone from 'best lightweight racing wheel' to Rotas. Not that there's anything wrong with Rotas as something to keep your car off the ground, but they're not exactly the first choice for racers around the world. Last edited by venturaII; 06-11-2015 at 11:49 AM. |
