I won't wave at an STi, different car...one I never liked.

I always wave to other twin owners and to other 'similar cars'.....Fiesta ST will always get a nod or thumbs up from me, love those cars too.

Never spun a bearing but slipped a timing belt at WOT once. Pretty sure there are still a few parts in orbit.

Living in a small town, I've had encounters with every tuner/car-enthusiast around at one time or another. I throw deuces to pretty much every Subie out there, and always get a return. But I also do it to Civics, bimmers, hyundais, corvettes, audis, etc. Pretty much any car that is built well.
The ones like the rattlecanned civics with huge spoilers and chopped exhaust get no love from me, but there are plenty of tastefully set up rides around town, and by now we all recognize each other.

I had a wrx and used to wave at any subaru with a hood scoop. The waves back almost always came from the early 20's to late 30's crowd in sti's, wrx's, and every now and then a legacy gt. When the BRZ dropped, they got waved at too.

The very first day I had my fr-s, I was pumping gas and saw a girl pull in driving an sti, dropped with a front mount and exhaust. I gave a thumbs up, said nice car, and got a blank stare in return. Thought to myself, "so, that's how it is now... well, the badge is scion" haha

On the rare occasion that I encounter another twin owner and wave, they pull a deer in headlights face.

Here is my analysis.

I have come to this conclusion after listening to people at various shops. Mechanics, owners etc. Also, I have owned a WRX and hung out with other drivers.

Here is what I think and it is just my opinion - some of them are jealous.

It's that simple.

The thinking goes like this -

Wow! That's a cool fucking car what is it?
WHAT? There is a Subaru badge on it.
Better read up.
Rear wheel drive? That's not a Subaru. Toyota!? That's not a Subaru.
So - while some of them don't recognize it as a real Subaru - they recognize how much fun we have and how great and cheap our mods are.

For instance - you can spend some serious money on brakes in an STI and still not have them be as nice as the stock BRZ with a brace and some SS brake lines. Drives them insane.

I love flirting with WRXs with my boosted BRZ after they decide to play. They get a surprise because in their heads they are thinking - POS little engine. I have about as much HP as a stock STI and I am much lighter. Maybe 400 pounds lighter.

Wait wut? That thing is fast AND sexy!

I love it when a dude has a GF in a WRX and she is rubbernecking my car while he is doing his best to ignore my presence completely.

In the end - I am sure most of the hardcore WRX folks would be utterly happy with an STI AND a BRZ - best of both worlds.

I miss my WRX but not as much as I would miss my BRZ. I didn't know how much I missed sliding the back end of a car around for no good reason other than the giggles. In my WRX - I took pride in sure footing on any surface. In my BRZ I am sad if the nanny kicks in because I forgot to turn it off. Bad nanny.

I find that most of the WRX crew has come to grips with the pretty sister and we can all be friends. I don't wave at most WRX drivers because a lot of them ignored me over the last year. If they wave - I wave back for sure. I am a fan of the brand - in particular the WRX and BRZ. We should all share that.

I don't wave at Outbacks and Foresters, though. I like them too - but for my grandma. Plus - if they aren't being driven by grandmas - the occupants are too busy arguing or dealing with kids.

My 10 cents
