I do believe this is a true root as I checked it with root checker and also titanium backup works. However it's really unfortunate as I mainly rooted for viper4android but I am unable to remove stock EQ because it comes up as "read-only." I tried different supersu programs and and tried remounting via android terminal but get an "operation not permitted" error. Something is wrong here. If someone else has tried this 3/18 root with success please chime in.

Also can someone tell me what version of viper4android you have installed and working properly?

UPDATE: I asked over at the Ca-fi forums and got this answer:
"kernel 03/18 disables write to the folder system. there are no solutions yet..."

They posted a rooted January (01/22/15) firmware instead. Link:
https://yadi.sk/d/H_SLih3DguRbK

I flashed this firmware which is automatically rooted. Able to edit system files without issues and able to install latest Viper4android without a hitch! You guys were right the sound quality is very cleaned up with viper4android. I feel I can turn up the volume with far more clarity.
So there is no way to change system directory to read/write on March update? Good to know. Thanks

Just grabbed a small 4 port hub and tried it out, works great. Have the dash cam, wifi, and a 32gb usb stick all plugged in, no issues.

Hi - I've tried using Torque on the HU, but it doesn't read the OBDII - I can use my phone without any problems, but the app says it's gathering info from the device, but nothing ever shows up. Is there something I'm not doing correctly? I have it set for bluetooth and have paired the device to HU.

It's still not exactly finished, but I use it for the last 2 months and it works great.

here it is: http://dump.bitcheese.net/files/epawovy/app-release.apk
1) After installing, open it and set top slider to 0.04 for example (it means how fast volume will grow with speed).
2) To start it after every boot, turn on such setting in options
3) You are ready to go! Change the volume how you like and it will fine tune itself with the speed
  • If you want to see how volume changes with speed, turn on debugging in app options and you'll see volume value in the center of the screen in huge digits.
  • Also you can play with other setting in app options, they all work.
  • Note that app remembers volume between reboots!
  • Also I haven't checked if app will still run after wakeup, as I configured unit to coldboot every time.

I've been using it for a few weeks.

After a system resume, the notification area says the service is still running, but sometimes it seems like it's not working. Simply tapping on the shortcut again (as if opening it for the first time) seems to kick it back into gear.

Also, how is the app's target volume derived from that slider value? 'Cause it seems like it's more aggressive with the slider at lower values, which is counter-intuitive.

[EDIT] just remembered, the "sometimes not working after resume" thing is not always this app's fault--sometimes my GPS bugs up and stops working, which would naturally interfere with this app's functionality.

New price of only ~$450?? This is a steal! This looks like a huge upgrade over the BeSpoke radio

That is a good price but you may want to wait. They just posted something on Facebook saying that this is there last batch of Dashlinq4's. There may be a new version coming out.

How much RAM does it use? My radio is constantly closing my apps due to low RAM

Well that's interesting because it must work the other way around.
I think it works simply multiplying speed with slider value and adding result to your volume.
something like, but not exactly: 0.04*100(kph) = +4 volume ticks
I will recheck algorithms.

Generally my app must have greater priority than other apps and also it must restart automatically.

On another topic, from ca-fi forums:

Dear friends, good news! We'll get a limited number of Dashlinq4 head units in stock again. All universal units incl. Toyota, Nissan and Volkswagen can be ordered now directly from our WebStore to the same promo conditions as before.

If somebody want to purchase a different model which shows still -out of stock- please contact us and we will check what we can do.

This is actually the very last batch of Dashlinq4.
bye-bye support, new FW, android 4.4 etc?

As opposed to having both on the same unit? I guess if you want less functionality, whatever works for you. I prefer to have the option of either.

First google hit.

I wouldn't order this one. I ordered what was listed as a USB OBDII 1.4 adapter, but what came was this one which is 1.5a. Will not work. Tried all sorts of things. Apparently there is an issue with 1.5a not being "official" or something.

I did purchase this one though - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZWM0R4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailp age_o08_s00"]Amazon.com: ScanTool 425801 OBDLink SX USB: OBD Adapter/Diagnostic Scanner for Windows: Automotive[/ame]

I can confirm that it works, but for some reason really seemed to slow down my whole system. I am using the Torque widgets on my home screen, so Torque is running all the time. Overall, this adapter worked fine, but I did go back to my semi reliable Bluetooth adapter due the slowness the USB adapter caused. I've been meaning to try it out again and do some tweaking on Torque, but haven't gotten back to it yet.

YMMV, but thought I'd let you know.

Except you won't. I have seen no indication of any Android Auto-compatible head units having any Android functionality whatsoever unless they're connected to a suitable phone (or tablet, presumably). Without a connected Android device, it's just a "dumb" head unit. Even when you do connect your phone, the selection of apps that work with Auto is limited--It'll grow over time, sure, but I can just about guarantee you'll run into a few apps that you want to use with it and can't.

Since I posted that link, I've ordered that exact one myself, and it's working perfectly.

The only issue--and from what I've read, this can crop up with any USB OBD2 adapter and Torque--is that if Torque is running and already polling the adapter for data before the ECU fully initializes (which can happen if the Dashlinq4 resumes from standby and Torque was running when it went to sleep), it can pop a CEL with code U0073 ("something network something something", basically the OBD2 adapter pulling data too soon interferes with the sensors and the ECU talking to each other).

To prevent this, either don't use the resume function (fuck this), or make sure Torque is fully exited and not running before putting the head unit to sleep.

To clear the CEL if it does trigger, scan for it in Torque (to make sure U0073 is the only one), then exit Torque and open the task manager to make sure it's fully exited and not running, then turn the car off, give it a few seconds, and turn it back on. The CEL should turn off, and you can now open Torque, scan for it again, and clear the code.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to connect to a hotspot on your phone on the fly?

my phone automatically turns on wifi and hotspots and bluetooth depending on where I am and what I'm connecting to, IE (on bluetooth connect turn on hotspot ..etc..)

I keep hearing things about a wifi dongle? is there a usb port on the back of this unit or do you have to use the one on the dash?

where would you put a usb hub and is that compatible?
