Ended up having to work but I drove around telsa after I got off. Will probably hit mines to check that out sometime this weekend or Monday at the latest.

Had a pretty bad experience on Pinehurst today when I went up for a lunchtime drive around 1pm. I was stuck behind a early 2000s Toyota Camry that kept going over the middle double yellow lane lines frequently, including in the blind corners. I was stuck behind them for 10 mins or so and I couldn't figure out why they kept doing this, and I was getting increasingly worried through the blind corner sections, hoping that nobody was coming in the opposite direction.

Surprisingly, they pulled over to let me pass and I actually stopped alongside them and motioned for them to roll down their window. It was some mom with her daughter I guess. I told them "Please don't drive over the middle lane lines on this road." and she just said something like "Oh" and began nodding slowly. So I said again "DO NOT cross over the double yellow lines" and she just kept vacantly nodding - maybe she didn't understand English? So I finally just said "Please don't cross the lines, that's how motorcyclists get killed on this road." which is a completely true statement.

I got ahead of them and then stopped at the intersection of Pinehurst and Redwood and got out so I could take down their plate and call it in to CHP. They rolled up and the girl in the passenger seat was aggressively yelling things at me out of her window.

Anyway, turns out CHP can't do anything unless you call 911 while it's happening and they get an officer out to see it happening. And calling 911 on Pinehurst might prove difficult considering there's no CELL SERVICE up there!

Careful out there guys, would've hated to see a fellow twin, cyclist, or motorcyclist coming around one of those blind corners directly into this person's front left bumper.

That sounds pretty bad but the unfortunate truth. CHP can't do much unless they are there and see it happen (which on occasion they are, thanks to us "enthusiasts" )

One of the main things I learned while riding is that everybody is out to get you, so the key is to look out for yourself. Keep your car on your side, eyes-up, scan ahead and drive at a pace where you can both have fun but be prepared to make an emergency stop or swerve out of the way if you have to. Save that red mist for controlled environments, ie auto-x or track.

I've seen that kind of stupid drivers all over that's why I always drive early to avoid those kind of drivers with no common sense

speaking of early morning drives... well stay tuned or come chat with us at the 86DRIVE tent on Saturday at Summer Kickoff. Summer is here, and that means ...

OK, announcing 86DRIVE's first summer event ... well, after the Summer Kickoff that is. Obviously most of us are focused on Saturday's meet, but there is also a great event happening on Sunday morning so I thought I would post it up here so people know in advance, rather than me just talking about it on Saturday.

I'm talking about the Blackhawk Cars & Coffee event:

Quote:
On the First Sunday of every month, automotive enthusiasts gather in the parking lots of the Blackhawk Automotive Museum to share their vehicles and admire the other fabulous classics, exotics, rods and anything else with wheels and a motor. There is no fee for Cars & Coffee. Come when you want, leave when you want, but know that early arrivals do get the parking space they prefer. Also, the Museum opens at 9am on Cars & Coffee Sundays.
So who else is up to join me for a short little group cruise into the Blackhawk C&C? I got there late last month and the entire shopping center was literally filled with cars. I think it would be great to get there a little early this time and roll in as a group so we can park together there. Event starts at 8AM but I'm thinking we get there around 7 or 7:30.

Meet up point: 6:30AM
Rudy's Donut House
3692 Castro Valley Blvd
Castro Valley, CA 94546

Destination: 7:30AM
Blackhawk Museum • 3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle • Danville, CA 94506

Again, this is a cruise not a full-fledged canyon run like some of you regulars may be familiar with. Don’t worry we will still have plenty of opportunities to do the traditional 86DRIVE adventures too. But this will be an 86DRIVE Star-earning event. Come out to the show with us and earn a Star that will go towards yet-to-be-determined awesome raffle prizes at the end of the summer!

(By the way, coming out to the Summer Kickoff event on Saturday will also earn you a Star -- just stop by the 86DRIVE tent to say hi and collect your first Star of the summer on an 86DRIVE card!)

I wonder if my wife will let me escape both days.

Can't make the summer kick off, which I'm really bummed about, but should be able to make the C&C cruise.

So its time for us to show what we got lol

Since I had to leave the kick off BBQ early and was on my way to the central valley, I decided to go down Mines rd and Del Puerto canyon. I'd like to report that Mines (at least north of the Junction) is still pretty gravelly and miserable. Del Puerto isn't too bad, with patches of gravel here and there.

On the up-side, the Ohlins soaked up those bumps, dips and cattle grids quite nicely
