alright, so i stopped reading at page 4 just because this stuff got way out of hand.
the swap may or may not work better, no one has hard facts. thats clear
some people say it is better some say it isnt
regardless of any of that
we should ALL be able to agree that it clearly does look better
and for some people that is really all that matters

NO ONE HAS DIED IN A FIRE BALL
and its a safe bet that no one is going to.

we should also all be able to agree that you could spend your money on worse upgrades that CLEARLY do not do anything
-Fake hood scoops http://www.ebay.com/bhp/hood-scoop
-electric supercharges
-Leafblower turbo's

True this, my Accord with Akebono ceramics and auto zone brake fluid gets a soft extended pedal at the second corner.

I have Sprint kit on my BRZ, not a single issue yet but every event I find myself harder and harder on the brakes.

Digging up an old post.

Any more information from those who did both front + rear GRB STI Brembo swaps and do track days "frequently" (~4 times a year)? Your advice would be very much appreciated.

I am looking to downgrade from the Alcon 6/4 kit (consumable costs killing me) to save some money (on a smaller brake kit and smaller wheels/tires) as I go to the track once every few months. So far in two years, I have used up 3 sets of front pads (Ferodo DS performance x1, Dixcel-Z x2), and only 1 set of rears (Ferodo DS Performance). What is the replacement ratio you guys that track are getting for front and rear pads for the STI Brembo swaps?

While doing the STI Brembo swap on the rear for the standard 86/BRZ is said to be not not beneficial (is this applicable to both GDB and GRB, or just GDB swap?) due to the caliper size, anyone in Australia/Japan/SE Asia have a view whether the swap will be considered an upgrade to the "AuDM GT/JDM G" spec 86/BRZ brakes, which comes with the 16" wheels stock?

Thanks

well i went from the BRZ 17" wheel brakes up tp 2012 STi brembo front and rear, and it feels soooo much better. I track the car at least 4x a year as well, have never experienced any fade. Consumable cost is low, my front pads are due for replacement soon.

Wish there were more hard facts on this. This old thread is the only real conversation i can find on this site. But from my very limited knowledge and using an online brake bias calculator using the STI front calipers and the rear 08+ 40mm calipers the bias is almost exactly the same as the stock set up on these cars. Now the breaking force of the sti calipers may not but a lot better than stock but the larger rotor size should help significantly with brake fade and cooling on track. From my research the brz brembos have a piston size of 40mm the STI is 40 and 46mm. The rear 08+ sti is 40mm and I have no idea of the performance pack piston size but im willing to bet it is damn close but more likely smaller than the STI. So yes the STI front brembos have more total piston surface area than the performance pack but im willing to bet so does the rear. So if it works for the performance pack im sure the STI calipers will work well too if not better. Also I dont want to hear "but they weren't meant for this car" the ft86 uses brakes from a wrx, lgt, and the rear suspension from about 10 different Subaru's so i think its fine if we do what they have been doing for years.

The STI rear 40mm piston calipers are a lot better. I would not put goldie brembos on this car.
