P0455
P0455 Evap system leak
I keep getting this code twice a week in the morning after car has sat overnight. Never got it during or after driving. Totally stock. I figured it was a fuel cap and bought an OEM cap but no fix. I just have a cheap scanner to read and clear codes with. When I clear it, 2 or 3 days later it comes back. I drive the car everyday. I really want to avoid the dealer if I can because I know they will just put a cap on it and I'll have to go back 3 or 4 times before they actually fix it. Anyone have any idea where I can start checking for the problem?

Your car is a year old and completely stock....So what do you have to lose at the dealer?

Evap leaks can be very simple, or a big pain.
Don't top off the gas, once it stops the pump, it's done. The overflow goes into your charcoal canister, can kick this code, and will screw your cat up later down the line. Tightening your gas cap, one click and you're done. If you've already bought a cap, and are utilizing it properly, the next step is a smoke test. This can take awhile depending on where the evap leak is, and how small it is. It can turn into the proverbial needle in a haystack, trying to find a .00022 mm leak somewhere in an entire car. Call your dealer, let them know where you're at and what you've done, and let them proceed. Also, there is info behind the code that helps with diagnosis. Our computers can see this info, while yours can not. If you're going to take it in, and the code is on, please do not clear it. Saves you and I a lot of time! |
