Can someone explain why some of you want to ban a part that makes your life considerably easier than if you had to install inserts?

Does anyone want to guess who a protest committee is likely to believe more: you stating the part is illegal, or Koni (with their excellent reputation in the community) stating the part is a direct OEM replacement? Do you have a plan to prove Koni wrong?

Hopefully we can put this to bed and work on finding a way to beat the MX-5s and the RX-8s with the cheater engine rebuilds. Now there is a juicy protest candidate if someone can find out what secret sauce is going into the blender...
I don't want to ban the Koni replacements at all. I just want people who run them to realize that, with no other changes, Koni struts allow more camber than the OEM struts. If someone were to max the camber by using the smaller bolts, it would be in excess of OEM tolerances and therefore illegal. If you're on factory springs, keep camber below 1.5; if you're on the TRD springs, a tad more should be fine. As long as you keep the camber to the degree it would be with OEM struts, nobody will care. Like markw said above, nobody says you have to crank the hub all the way over to max camber.

BTW, Ogburn matched the quick MX-5 time today in Lincoln. As Dave gets more time in the car, I'd expect him to keep pace with Fenter/Harvey. The course had lots of high speed elements and was a blast. Those who weren't there missed out.

Even I and the other sucker in the BRZ had a good time.

I definitely had fun at the tour. I was glad to improve from day 1 to day 2, I rarely do.

Definitely going to have to pick up the RE71Rs. My old ZIIs aren't going to cut the mustard.

I think he said he has the springs and I would guess the bars also but maybe he'll chime in and confirm.

CS really has a great bunch of guys in it. Everyone was very friendly and it was cool meeting a bunch of people from this forum.

I'm hearing that the RE71Rs don't last very long. Someone said after 44 runs theirs were corded.

I know someone who ran them for 8 hours at an enduro.

He then rotated front to rear and kept running.

I'm at about 45 runs and they are still totally fine. The centers wear a little odd though. This is on regular pavement though so it might be worse on concrete or just generally crappy pavement.

Edit: I run STX so the added camber may help some too.

44 runs sounds like a bit much. Maybe in CS trim, with a narrow wheel, no camber, oversized tire. And you didn't flip or rotate them, and you were hard on the sidewalls. Maybe that is 44 runs.

In my experience, mine got pretty beat up due to rough surfaces from SD and Crows. They got about 40 runs on those surfaces. We have another local site which is nicer to tires for another 35~ runs. In total they've got about 75 or so runs on them now. I did have to rotate and flip them. I expect another 30-40 runs on the 'kind' surface before they're toast. On a rougher surface, maybe 20 runs.

I remember talking to 'whatboubob' in san diego and he would remount his tires onto his wheels...moving the lefts to the right and rights to the left to get extra life out of the tires...not sure if this is very cost effective in CS, but now that the trd springs opened the doors for an extra degree of camber, this could be a viable option to extending the life of dedicated autoX tires.

Anyone currently doing this?

Yes TRD springs and both bars.

Maybe I missed it, how is anyone getting more camber from the front due to springs? That's not even geometrically correct....?

I have been thru a protest at Nationals for excess camber, and was found compliant because I followed the rules. This was for a different stock car (SRT4 ACR). I used the factory strut housings with inserts so the spring perch would be at the correct height (with the original stock Tokico struts). If the spring perch of the Koni full struts is in a different position than the stock strut, it is illegal. If the spring perch and all other strut measurements are the same as stock struts, it will be legal. Some struts will get more neg camber than others and some cars will get more neg camber than others. If you follow the rules with legal parts, the resulting negative camber (unless Scion lists a max negative camber with the crash bolts) is legal.

Sooooo, use the legal parts that give you the most legal camber...

For those going to the Mineral Wells Pro Solo that don't live very far away. Equipe Rapide is having a mirror cross the Sunday before the Pro Solo.

Wouldn't hurt to get a little experience in if you're able to.
