AFAIK, this unit does not come with any sort of SMS functionality. There may be something you can download and install that will add this functionality though.

No. However, if you look a few pages back, one of the users here built a small app that uses the GPS data to calculate your speed, and adjust the volume based on that (you'll have to PM said user to ask for the link, it's not posted in the thread).

If you do not have a 3G dongle and are connected via bluetooth/wifi to your phone, no, because the doesn't actually receive a text/sms. If you have a 3G dongle, maybe? If would depend on the messaging app you use I would think.

No. It doesn't have an accelerometer so it doesn't know how fast you are moving.

Accelerometer wouldn't tell it this anyway; it would measure changes, but not constant speed. You have to use either GPS or pull the data from the ECU.

True enough. Glad most people like it.

To those who care, I replaced it with a fairly barebones JVC HU ($140), and, paired with my OEM Audioplus system, holy crap the audio on both the Ca-Fi and Fujitsu are completely terrible.

Good point. In any event, I wasn't aware of any apps that could do this, and the HU didn't have this built-in.

If you think the Ca-Fi's sound quality is bad, I think you had a lemon unit. It sounds great to me.

Please, take your bashing someplace else.

Not personally.

3.4 stars from 184 customer reviews is a pretty positive indication, though.

You could use mighty text if you want to handle your phone texts from head unit

Right - bashing.... If you are so inclined, go back through this thread and read my initial comments. I had nothing but good things to say about it, but I have to question the build quality after:

1. First HU arrived with broken buttons.
2. Two months to send back/get replacement HU.
3. Replacement HU video input stopped working 8 months later.
4. Replacement HU audio output stopped working 9 months later.
5. In retrospect, neither unit had good sound (this is of course subjective), even when using ViperFX and spending way too much time trying to tweak it.

And if I did have a lemon unit (or two - entirely possible), it doesn't change the fact that if someone else gets a lemon unit, they also have to ship it back to China.

I assumed this thread was dedicated to discussing the HU, not just saying how great it is and ignoring any potential issues. If I was going to drop $500 on a HU with a 6 month warranty, I'd like to have all the info.

Key points:
-This firmware is build 03/18/15 (obviously)
-Car Home is disabled (boots straight to your app pages) I actually like Car Home but I know I'm in the minority
-Root works, superuser app is installed

Issues:
-Stock Bluetooth version was 01/26/2015. After flashing the new firmware, bluetooth version is UNKNOWN and bluetooth no longer works. The bluetooth option is there but it does not detect my phone and vice versa.

-Another separate issue which is prob just me being a noob is that I'm trying to install viper EQ but I keep getting an error when i try to do anything in the system folder. Such as delete the stock EQ app or move Viper EQ to the system/app folder. It says the system folder is read only.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix bluetooth or gain access to system folder please let me know. If I can't get the bluetooth working I'll have to go back to stock firmware.
Just wanted to update for those giving this firmware a shot. I did fix bluetooth by editing the bluetooth firmware version here:
http://ca-fi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4715

However I cannot get ability to remount system folder as writable. Meaning I can't edit any of the apps in system folder. I do believe this is a true root as I checked it with root checker and also titanium backup works. However it's really unfortunate as I mainly rooted for viper4android but I am unable to remove stock EQ because it comes up as "read-only." I tried different supersu programs and and tried remounting via android terminal but get an "operation not permitted" error. Something is wrong here. If someone else has tried this 3/18 root with success please chime in.

Also can someone tell me what version of viper4android you have installed and working properly?

UPDATE: I asked over at the Ca-fi forums and got this answer:
"kernel 03/18 disables write to the folder system. there are no solutions yet..."

They posted a rooted January (01/22/15) firmware instead. Link:
https://yadi.sk/d/H_SLih3DguRbK

I flashed this firmware which is automatically rooted. Able to edit system files without issues and able to install latest Viper4android without a hitch! You guys were right the sound quality is very cleaned up with viper4android. I feel I can turn up the volume with far more clarity.

I installed the dashcam and rooted 3/18/2015 firmware without issue. Hoping they update the software for the dashcam to use the SDCard but in the meantime I'll try and test out some USB options.

I picked up a cheap 4-port USB hub with a 1' cable or so, plugged it into the front, and used four small dabs of poster putty ("Blu-Tack" is a common brand; I got Target's store brand) to stick it to the right side of the center console. Don't have the dashcam yet, but it reads my USB thumb drives just fine.

Nice. I'll have to try that. I have the dash plugged into the rear USB port/cable. Curious if the USB and wifi dongle will work with a hub.
