What are you driving now? At the end of the day it is still an economy car and there will be the occasional small quirks about the car that you just have to deal with. I personally still think the crickets are way overblown with these cars. When I did notice it, it was not horrible and usually the radio would cover them completely

As for the torque dip, you have options. You can learn to drive around it. You can mod your car and get a tune to smooth it out. These cars are made to rev. I think the people who complain the most about the torque curve are the ones who probably need to learn how to downshift more...

Is it the MY2015?
My 2015 has crickets that showed up around 1500 miles, I'm at about 2500 now and they only happen sometimes (all fuel here has ethanol, so it's not due to change in fuel).

There is still a noticeable torque dip in the powerband. There is a noticeable jump in torque as soon as you get around 4800rpm. If you are driving aggressively and you notice the kick in the pants at 4800rpm, you know you messed up and didn't downshift enough (or were in first gear!)

So in other words.... VTEC kicks in at 4800rpm??

Yes, over used joke. Forgive me, I am so damn bored right now.

I believe they now use a larger gasket where the light housing contacts the vehicle to seal it up better.

I notice the torque dip, it's very profound. I quickly learned to work around it, though. This car likes a two gear downshift.

I murdered most of my crickets by putting a little ashless, marine, two stroke oil in every time I fill up.

OP those are all dealer installed mods upon your first vehicle service.

They need to make sure the car is broken in before installing them

Downshifting doesn't work from a stop light...

I notice it most when accelerating from 0 mph.

Me too, for about .05 seconds as I accelerate through it in first gear.

Is the torque dip really that big of a deal?

I ask this while fully admitting I have no history of car ownership apart from the bathtub I currently drive. From my point of view, this will be a big upgrade and wouldn't mind since I don't plan on tracking or anything like that.
